About Pine Media

Pine Media is an independent full-fibre Internet Service Provider based in Sheffield. We design, build and operate our own FTTP network across South Yorkshire and Derbyshire, delivering high-performance broadband to both residential and business customers.

Our network is built using both Openreach infrastructure and our own plant, following established build methodologies such as blown fibre spine, ULW cable laterals between SASA joints to overhead and underground CBTs. If you have Openreach experience, you will find our build methods familiar and directly transferable.

Why this role?

Pine Media is in a strong growth phase, rolling out new build areas and expanding our engineering team. Joining us now means becoming part of a compact, experienced group where your work is visible, your input is valued and your progression is taken seriously.

The role offers realistic earnings of £35,000+ when core performance and internal quality standards are met, with a solid earnings floor and uncapped bonus potential each month for engineers who exceed targets. As we grow, there are clear routes into Lead Engineering and supervisory positions.

Role Overview

As a Fibre Engineer at Pine Media, you will work across both network deployment and customer delivery. This is not just a cable-installation role: you will be involved in new network build, customer installations and quality assurance, ensuring that the network you help to construct is reliable, safe and built to a consistently high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • BAU Network build & delivery: Install overhead and underground fibre, CBTs and joint closures as part of our FTTP rollout.
  • MDU Enablement: Retrofit our fibre to commercial and residential MDUs.
  • On-demand delivery projects: React to orders from our leased line or Fibre on Demand orders, involvement from start to finish.
  • Customer installations (L2C): Install fibre to customer premises, including external feeds, internal cabling and splicing.
  • Jointing & testing: Perform fusion splicing and testing (including OTDR and power-level checks) in high a low capacity joints.
  • Quality assurance: Audit completed work, identify and rectify defects, and help maintain consistent build and installation standards.
  • Health & safety: Work safely at height and in the underground network, following risk assessments, method statements and relevant legislation.
  • Collaboration: Liaise with planning, network and service delivery teams to meet build programmes and KPI targets.
  • Continuous improvement: Contribute ideas for improving build methods, efficiency and training, and support the development of junior engineers.

About You - Skills & Experience

  • At least two years' experience in fibre engineering (installation, jointing or network build).
  • Strong knowledge of Openreach-style FTTP builds and jointing.
  • Proficiency in fusion splicing and fibre testing equipment (OTDR, power meters, etc.).
  • NRSWA Street Works Operative Unit 2, SA001 and S008 (or equivalent) certifications.
  • Full UK driving licence held for a minimum of two years.
  • Comfortable working at height and in the underground network, in all reasonable weather conditions.
  • Organised and able to manage your own workload when working to agreed standards and KPIs.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach with customers.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Total earnings (OTE): £35,000+ per year (realistic, based on meeting core standards)
  • Bonus: Uncapped bonus potential for exceeding agreed targets
  • Base salary: £32,000 per annum (PAYE)
  • Fully equipped company van, fuel card, tools, PPE and mobile phone
  • 28 days holiday, rising to 32 days after six months
  • Company pension scheme and paid sick leave
  • Free Pine Media home broadband after six months
  • Training and support for further industry certifications
  • Clear progression paths
  • Supportive engineering team with no on-call requirement and stable daytime hours
  • Accessible and receptive management

If you are an experienced fibre engineer looking for a long-term move into a business investing in both its network and its people - with clear earnings, uncapped bonus potential and genuine career progression - we would be pleased to hear from you.
