Job overview

A rare and exciting opportunity has come up for a qualified diagnostic radiographer to join the MRI team at St Mary's Hospital - Paddington, London. We are looking to recruit a B7 Substantive Radiographer for a part time MRI post, 30 hours per week. The role will consist of 2x 11.25 hour shifts and 1x 7.5 hour shift per week. This will also incorporate weekend duties.

St Mary's has recently installed the latest in AI reconstruction technology onto 3 of our 4 GE MRI scaners. We are therefore looking for fresh and dynamic individuals to join the team to integrate and further develop this service with the latest protocol optimisation.

In this MRI post, you can expect to perform a diverse range of diagnostic MR procedures, including cardiac imaging, for both adults and pediatrics patients.

You will also be part of the team for interventional MR procedures including paediatric GA, and focused ultrasound ablation.
We are looking for individuals who are ready to embrace the challenges that come with the meticulous process of protocol overhaul, ensuring the sequences are in line with the latest research whilst prioritising department efficiency.

You should have excellent technical background and be ready to demonstrate leadership as you join our friendly and welcoming MRI team.

Main duties of the job

  • Perform MRI procedures according to Trust, Departmental and statutory regulations
  • Provide a high standard of patient care within the specialised area of MRI
  • To communicate effectively in order to ensure the smooth running of the service
  • To supervise and line manage band 6 staff, imaging assistants and students
  • To deputise for the MRI Modality Lead as and when required
  • To carry out a full range of MRI procedures to the agreed standards of the department.
  • To abide by the Health and Safety Code of the unit and ensure that all patients and visitors do likewise.
  • To assist the MRI administrative team in the course of their work
  • To maintain a high standard of patient care and comfort and demonstrate person-centric care at all times.
  • To have highly specialist knowledge of all MRI specific procedures and practises.
  • To work in an efficient and effective manner at all times.
  • To appear on duty promptly and appropriately dressed and behave in a professional manner at all times.
  • To plan, prioritise and organise own workload.
  • To report any untoward incidents and equipment failure to the Modality Lead
  • To work using own initiative but be aware own limitations and seek guidance when necessary.
  • To liaise and communicate effectively with other staff both within and external to the department regarding patient care and ensure that effective communication is implemented and maintained.

Education

Essential criteria

  • BSc(Hons) Radiography, DCR(D) Diploma of the College of Radiographers or equivalent
  • HCPC registration

Desirable criteria

  • Post-Graduate Study

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Previous whole body MRI scanning experience
  • Up to date knowledge of general imaging techniques
  • Experience of working unsupervised
  • Awareness of clinical governance issue in relation to patient care

Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience at Band 7 Level

Skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to teach and mentor students, more junior staff and new members of staff
  • Ability to cope with work pressures and manage time effectively

Desirable criteria

  • Teaching, counselling and supervisory skills
  • IV injecting skills
