Our Opportunity:

We have exciting, rare opportunities for talented and motivated Senior Piping/Pipeline Engineers to join our growing team at our world-renowned Spadeadam research and test site in Cumbria. As a Chartered Engineer (or working towards), you will lead/work alongside our team of scientists and engineers, who carry out full-scale major hazard testing and research, involving liquid and gaseous fuel releases on behalf of our clients.

As a senior specialist on our Piping Engineering projects, your role will be a varied one, combining your operational delivery, project, and people management skills, to ensure a quality service is delivered to our customers at all times. You will also support the ongoing development of less experienced members of our team and identification of further opportunities for service improvement.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Delivering the full project lifecycle for mechanical/piping engineering services to meet DNV's, our customer's and applicable statutory and regulatory specifications
  • Initiate, manage and where required supervise engineering project requirements, providing technical advice and support to assist the development of less experienced members of the team
  • Ensuring project scope is clear, outlining requirements to wider team, assigning appropriate tasks and supervising progress, ensuring issues/changes are agreed with and communicated to customers and wider project stakeholders
  • Assisting and advising during procurement, construction and commissioning activities, including writing requisitions and conducting technical bid evaluations
  • Providing timely and effective communication with the engineering team and wider project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle, including to our customers
  • Working closing with our Project Management team to ensure the commercial aspects of projects from conception through to completion are achieved

Qualifications

Here at DNV we try to keep our mandatory requirements to a minimum, recognising the value that a variety of experience and backgrounds can bring. Along with your natural curiosity and passion for our industry, there are however a few things which are essential to be considered for this opportunity:

  • A Mechanical engineering degree and ideally Chartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status
  • Significant technical and practical engineering skills and experience in the energy industry including experience in working in multi-disciplinary projects and teams
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the fundamental requirements of mechanical/piping engineering, including:
    • Equipment layout
    • Design of pump and piping systems
    • Fluid system analysis and design
    • Pipe stress analysis
    • Reading and interpreting drawings, including general mechanical, piping and P&ID drawings
  • Adaptable and responsive with ability to proactively work across multiple projects simultaneously to challenging deadlines, maintaining high performance without compromising on quality or accuracy
  • Excellent communicator to both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders (including customers) with the ability to write clear and concise reports, robustly analyse data and present complex solutions and ideas
  • A valid UK Driving Licence (as our site is not accessible by public transport)

Due to the specific nature of our site, you must be able to obtain and maintain a UK Security Clearance (application for clearance will be assisted by DNV).
