Are you an experienced mechanical engineer? Do you enjoy working as part of a team? If so, we have an opportunity for an experienced engineer to join our Engineering and Design team where you'll play a key role in delivering the excellent service we are known for.
What you'll do

In preparation for delivering a significant capital programme over the next five years, we are seeking to build upon the strong technical knowledge that is prevalent within our Design department.

As one of our Senior Mechanical Engineers, you will provide mechanical engineering technical skills and practical knowledge and be a leader in the design development process to achieve the best value.

You'll be collaborating during the design process with other teams such as Civils and Networks, achieving the best value and innovative solutions that are safe to build, operate and maintain.

You will undertake option evaluation/assessment for projects within the required timescales and agreed feasibility budgets, developing single least whole life cost and sustainable solutions, as well as taking ownership of preferred solutions through outline design, detailed design and into construction.

The role will involve:

  • working across a full range of water infrastructure from abstraction, borehole, wastewater treatment, potable water treatment and sewerage networks
  • the preparation of business case reports clearly defining project proposals
  • collaborating with other engineering teams to ensure that projects deliver the required scope
  • supporting operational groups in the achievement of departmental performance commitments
  • maintaining mechanical design standards and proposing improvements to existing design approaches
  • supporting the development of the team's skills and capabilities, particularly more junior staff members.

What you'll need

To be successful you will be proactive and positive and have a strong working ethos. You will be driven to succeed, always aspire for excellence and think outside the box.

As well as this, you will have proven and demonstrated design experience and ideally be professionally registered within a relevant institution.

You will also:

  • have a degree in mechanical engineering or a similar engineering discipline
  • possess water industry or relevant industry experience
  • have worked closely with contracting partners and client customers throughout your career
  • have previous knowledge and experience in the application of risk management principles, particularly in relation to environmental issues
  • have the experience to interface with other utilities and other key stakeholders
  • have strong negotiation and influencing skills and a positive proactive attitude
  • be customer-focused and a strong team player
  • be able to manage your own time and be both adaptable and resilient to change.

Who we are

YTL Construction UK is a new company that will be part of the international YTL Group. The Group, which is based in Malaysia, has a very large building and construction arm within Asia, including housing, roads, rail, commercial buildings, hotels, performing arts venues and cement manufacturing.
