Location - Flexible base location (with national travel required)

About the role

As a Senior Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Designer you will help shape, improve and deliver building services designs across our national estate. If you enjoy being out on site, solving problems, working with real kit, and making sure things are done properly, this could be right up your street.

You'll be the go-to person for creating safe, compliant and cost-effective M&E designs for refurbishments, upgrades and new build projects. Working closely with project managers, engineers and contractors, you'll help turn ideas into solid, workable designs that keep our buildings running smoothly.

The Role

• As an M&E Designer, you will be responsible for the delivery of M&E design solutions from first concept through to project handover.
• Carrying out detailed site surveys, inspections and feasibility checks to understand what's really needed.
• Producing high quality design documents drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and technical info for tenders.
• Providing technical support throughout procurement, design development, installation and commissioning.
• Making sure designs are safe, compliant and aligned with standards, regulations and project requirements.
• Spotting opportunities to reduce costs, boost performance, improve sustainability and support in-house delivery.
• Working closely with project teams to ensure designs fit timelines, budgets and operational needs.
• Supplying clear technical input for reports, risks and progress updates.
• Building strong working relationships with internal teams, contractors and the wider supply chain.
• Supporting testing, commissioning, validation and technical handovers on completed projects.
• Applying value for money principles and helping shape smarter, more efficient ways of working.

Skills & Experience

• Solid technical know how across building services (HVAC, power, lighting, fire systems, controls, etc.).
• Strong understanding of construction safety and CDM 2015.
• Confident producing design documents, specifications and reports.
• Experience using CAD tools and carrying out technical calculations.
• Good negotiation and influencing skills.
• Experience in M&E design (consultancy, contractor or client side).
• Practical experience in industrial, commercial or operational buildings.
• Experience supporting installation, testing and commissioning.
• Hands-on building services or building surveying experience.

Qualifications (Nice to have, not essential if you have the right experience)

• Degree, HNC or HND in Building Services, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
• Working towards (or holding) a chartership with RICS, ICE, CIOB, CIBSE, IET, etc.
• CSCS card or Construction H&S test pass.
• IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH General Certificate.
