Overview
Expleo is a trusted partner for end-to-end, integrated engineering, quality services and management consulting for digital transformation. We help businesses harness unrelenting technological change to successfully deliver innovations that will help them gain a competitive advantage and improve the everyday lives of people around the globe.
As a Senior Mechanical Designer with Expleo, you will take a lead role in the conceptual design of complex mechanical handling and processing equipment to support hazardous material processing in the nuclear industry. This position contributes directly to a nuclear new build project, aligned with the Continuous at Sea Deterrent initiative. Your role will encompass both technical guidance and quality assurance, working flexibly at the client's secure site and delivering designs that meet stringent regulatory and safety standards in a high-integrity, highly regulated environment.
You will be responsible for both 2D and 3D design outputs, ensuring that designs are fit for purpose from concept through to manufacturing support. In this role, you will also collaborate closely with multi-disciplinary engineering teams and provide design governance to maintain the highest technical standards and ensure the customers program continues to move forwards.
Responsibilities
Technical Requirements:
- Design Development and Review: Produce and review detailed 2D and 3D designs, technical specifications, and other outputs for mechanical systems, ensuring adherence to best practices in design configuration, documentation, and CAD output management.
- Project Delivery: Lead technical aspects of design projects, including design iteration, output production, defect resolution, obsolescence management, and capability upgrades to meet contract objectives.
- Technical Oversight: Provide guidance on design methodologies, tool selection, and technical problem-solving. Ensure that all work aligns with ISO standards, regulatory requirements, and Health & Safety protocols.
- Problem Resolution and Continuous Improvement: Address production and technical queries related to manufacturing and installation issues and contribute to continuous improvement by implementing learnings from project experiences.
- Documentation and Standards Compliance: Manage technical documentation, ensuring alignment with project specifications, and apply relevant engineering standards, codes, and procedures to maintain compliance and quality.
- Safety and Compliance: Support the Product Safety Assessment process to meet safety standards and reduce risk, ensuring all designs adhere to regulatory and safety requirements.
Interpersonal Requirements:
- Leadership and Mentorship: Support a team of junior designers, allocating tasks, and providing technical oversight to ensure quality across design outputs. Review drawings and ensure effective interdisciplinary coordination.
- Client and Stakeholder Management: Act as the primary technical contact for professional engineering colleagues and client stakeholders, fostering strong relationships, managing expectations, and communicating progress effectively.
Other Requirements:
- Innovation and Best Practices: Keep abreast of industry developments in design techniques and standards, fostering best practices within the team and driving technical and cultural advancements.
- Brand Advocacy: Champion Expleo's brand within the workplace, promoting its values, standards, and commitment to quality and innovation across all project interactions and team activities.
