Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Welcome and orientate patients, carers, relatives, and other visitors to the ward/department demonstrating care and compassion at all times.
- Report any observed changes in the patient's physical or psychological needs to the registered practitioner.
- Provide support to the registered practitioner, and where appropriate, other members of the ward / department clinical team as required.
- Initiate and participate with emergencies i.e., cardiac arrest, patient falls and patients with a rapidly deteriorating condition.
- Communicate effectively and maintain good relationships with patients, relatives, and healthcare practitioners.
- Organise the supply and maintenance of materials and ward or department equipment ensuring they are placed in the correct area and present no hazards to staff, patients or visitors.
- Assist in the transfer of materials and equipment as requested.
- Clean and return equipment utilised in procedures and treatments to the Decontamination Unit or dispose of as appropriate.
- Recognise and consistently works within boundaries of the role.
- Maintain responsibility for their own continuing professional development needs and take part in the annual appraisal process to help identify future development requirements.

Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Level 1 functional Maths and English
- Holds a National Care Certificate
- Level 3 qualification in clinical healthcare OR able to demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills and competency to undertake Band 3 clinical skills as described in the job description
- Has worked as a Band 2 Healthcare or Maternity Care Assistant (or equivalent)
Desirable criteria
- Speciality specific training and competencies achieved and ongoing development
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience working in a healthcare, social care organisation/setting or service industry requiring people contact
- Knowledge of Infection Prevention and Control and Safeguarding processes
- Experience of working with a healthcare team in a patient setting
- Experience of dealing with patient / relative verbal complaints.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of working within a health care environment.
Communication and Relationship skills

- Good communication skills (written and verbal)
- Able to work as a team

Disclosure and Barring Service Check
Please note if you are successful in obtaining this position and the post involves regulated activity you will be required to undertake a Disclosure & Barring Service check.
The Trust will pay for the check initially and the money will then be deducted from your salary over a three month period commencing on your first month's payment.
The current price of a check is £38 for an enhanced and £18 for a standard check.
