Job Description

What will you be doing?

As a Senior Materials Engineer, you will join Gillingham team to support our activities within the automotive sector.

Your main responsibilities will be:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define, prioritize, and execute test activities, analysis, and measurements to meet project objectives in terms of cost, quality, and timing.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports, presentations, and technical documentation with clear analysis and summaries for internal and customer decision-making.
  • Conduct calibration and basic fault diagnosis on laboratory equipment, liaising with suppliers/manufacturers as needed.
  • Develop strong technical relationships with product and manufacturing engineering teams, customers, and key suppliers, escalating risks and issues to management in a timely manner.
  • Write work instructions, materials specifications, and test methods using company standard forms or developed processes.
  • Ensure safe working practices in the laboratory environment, adhering to all relevant procedures and regulations.
  • Support and follow local and corporate procedures, including compliance with relevant standards such as IAFT.
  • Coach and train engineers and junior staff members to enhance technical capabilities and foster a culture of continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Materials Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Expertise in thin coatings and tribology, with a strong understanding of associated principles and methodologies.
  • Proven experience in conducting test activities, analysis, and measurements to support product development and engineering functions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear and concise technical reports and documentation.
