Role Summary

Here at Parker Meggitt, we're recruiting for a Senior Materials and Applications Engineer. In this role you will research, analyse, design, and test additively manufactured materials and components for fluid systems in aerospace applications. Specifically, the role applies scientific analysis to define and develop metallic materials to be used in additively manufactured components for use in aerospace or industrial applications; this includes development of material specifications, additive printer parameters, and material characterisation and qualification. You'll also support research and technology product development projects to either improve core products, develop new products or develop new design and development tools and processes for additively manufactured product design.

Core Responsibilities

  • Utilising materials science background to develop additive printer parameters, metallic materials, processes and tools for use in additively manufactured part design
  • Developing conceptual designs and layouts, detailed part drawings, including GD&T analysis and stackup
  • Developing test plans, procedures and reports as well as conducting engineering development testing and qualification testing
  • Support R&D programs as required to ensure parts are built per print and within the allowable project cost and schedule including partnering with Suppliers to develop next generation AM Printer

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field
  • Capable of conducting engineering development testing and qualification testing
  • Demonstrable experience of supporting R&D programs
  • Adept in developing test plans, procedures reports
  • Extensive experience in developing conceptual designs and layouts, detailed part drawings and G&T analysis and stackup
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Understanding of Intellectual Property rights associated with developed tools & methodologies
  • Well-organised, detail-oriented, and ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise duties with minimal supervision, in order to meet deadlines

Desirable

  • Master's Degree in relevant field
  • Extensive material science experience specifically in additive manufacturing
  • Considerable Engineering Experience with design for additive manufacturing including metallic material properties
  • Proficient with engineering design and analysis tools including CATIA and ANSYS including knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing techniques
  • Ability to specify and conduct material qualification programs
  • Ability to research and statistically analyse data effectively - in particular the large datasets required to qualify a material for use in production parts
  • Significant experience in using standard metrology equipment
  • Understanding of how utilisation of artificial intelligence / machine learning / autonomy / control can lead to improved product quality and process efficiency
