Regulatory, Trade, and Product Compliance Manager

We are a international lifestyle and action sports licensee, distributor and manufacturer with over 40 years of heritage and experience and are looking for an experienced Regulatory, Trade, and Product Compliance Manager. The role is responsible to lead and unify regulatory, trade compliance, and product compliance across global apparel, hard goods and footwear lines, ensuring adherence to local and international safety, trade, and regulatory standards. This role encompasses overseeing product quality and customs compliance, maintaining strong relationships with regulatory authorities, and driving process improvements to meet the evolving needs of the business.

What will I be accountable for?

Regulatory Compliance Leadership

  • Lead the regulatory and trade compliance functions, ensuring that products meet safety and regulatory requirements across global markets (UK, EU, US, etc.).
  • Stay current with and communicate changes in international regulations, trade laws, and industry standards, advising internal teams and adapting processes to remain compliant.
  • Develop and maintain company policies to address ethical standards, data protection, and modern slavery obligations across the supply chain.

Customs and Trade Compliance Management

  • Oversee the end-to-end customs process, including HS code classification, application of preferential trade agreements, and management of customs declarations.
  • Ensure alignment with free trade agreements and customs regulations in collaboration with customs brokers, exporters, and internal teams.
  • Establish audit processes for customs compliance, maintaining all necessary documentation and conducting regular reviews.

Product Quality and Technical Assurance

  • Manage product testing, certification, and labeling to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards, including risk assessments for potential safety hazards.
  • Collaborate with vendors to ensure product compliance with regulatory standards, social responsibility, and quality expectations.
  • Supervise product labeling and documentation for accuracy, including barcodes, care labels, and packaging data, and resolve any discrepancies

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication

  • Partner with internal teams (Finance, Product Development, Logistics) and external stakeholders (customs authorities, test facilities, vendors) to ensure seamless regulatory and compliance integration.
  • Lead regular reporting to executive leadership on compliance status, audit results, and relevant regulatory updates.
  • Facilitate internal training and guidance on compliance matters, fostering awareness and adherence to new regulations across departments.

Process Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Champion the use of technology and lean methodologies to improve compliance processes, reduce inefficiencies, and support operational excellence.
  • Develop and maintain a Compliance Manual as a live document, ensuring all procedural checks and standards are up-to-date.
  • Benchmark compliance processes against industry best practices, identifying opportunities for further innovation and improvement.

Key Measures of Success

  • Successful product compliance across all target markets, with minimal regulatory infractions.
  • Timely and accurate customs and regulatory documentation, leading to efficient product flow.
  • Strong internal and external feedback on compliance processes and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Improved process efficiency through innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Person Profile:

  • Capable of thinking independently and acting strategically and proactively, being comfortable working within an evolving business with increasing regulatory requirements.
  • Experience of managing multiple projects and critical paths concurrently.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with all levels and functions across the business.
  • A passion for and understanding of sustainability
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve packing related issues.

Education and Experience:

  • A demonstratable track record of packaging development and management.
  • Degree or professional qualification, or equivalent experience in packing and product Technology.
