What you’ll be doing:
- Working with the Engineering, Quality, Planning and Operations functions to develop the Dimensional Management Strategy for BAE Systems submarines across the business portfolio
- Developing an in-depth understanding of the Submarine build strategy, its general characteristics from a Manufacturing and construction process perspective
- Understanding and developing dimensional management approaches that are appropriate for the different stages of the submarine’s product lifecycle ranging from concept design through to ultimate delivery (Astute, Dreadnought and SSNA)
- Growing the Dimensional Management sub discipline within Manufacturing Engineering, defining processes, policies and ensuring that appropriate training is in place for dimensional management engineers deployed within the submarines programmes
- Working within the bounds of the extant US/UK knowledge transfer process, to establish and share best practices
- Thorough extensive knowledge of Geometric, datuming and tolerancing, an understanding of variation management and key characteristic controls
- Working in collaboration with the Dimensional controls team (Quality), to ensure latest metrology equipment, processes and techniques support the Dimensional management requirements and so that the data output of the metrology system can be readily interpreted, analysed and consumed
Your skills and experiences:
Essential:
- Degree qualified in STEM to master or equivalent industry experience within manufacturing or quality
- Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T) experience
- Previous experience in managing a team
Desirable:
- Experience of working on Complex engineering systems
- Knowledge applied in Shipbuilding

The Engineering and Manufacturing Team:
As a Senior Manufacturing Engineering Manager, you will be Managing a specific Manufacturing Engineering Capability, or the Senior Manager leading teams of Manufacturing Engineers within a Project / Build Delivery Stream Area, who provides production data to Operational areas. This latter category could comprise of a number of major Manufacturing Engineering systems, Engineers with various skill tags utilising different equipment and software products. This role will provide you with roles that are differentiated through the technical complexity and criticality of the Capability Area; or size of projects managed as measured through, annual cost/budget, IBP value and volume of resources managed.
