Description
Do you want to help build a company with the capacity to disrupt whole industries and take on environmental issues on a global scale?

Job Title: Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Location: Central Bristol / Hybrid
Salary Range: GBP 46,800 - GBP 67,600 per annum
Matter. is a microplastics capture technology company focused on sustainable design and circular economy. You will be working on some of the biggest challenges of our time, removing microplastics and micropollutants from the world's waterways and airways.
Through brilliant design thinking, powerful partners, and impatience to make what we do matter, our mission is to develop and scale products that are the hard line between the biological and technical cycle.
We pride ourselves on our amazing technology and passion for wanting to change things, but fundamentally what we are most proud of is our people.
For us, people are everything. It's what makes a company, not the mission written on the wall or the fancy building we work in. Our people represent us, our values and why we do what we do.
The Opportunity
Matter needs a candidate with a strong technical background who can develop new systems and processes for establishing manufacturing lines for one-off production and scaling to assembly lines for batch manufacture.
This role is primarily focused on our Industries business unit projects for textiles manufacturing solutions. Matters patented self-cleaning industrial-scale filtration technology, reduces chemical use, prolongs the life of water reuse systems and significantly cuts operating costs. Compared to current technologies, Regen.™ for Textile Production is a low energy, low cost solution that can save millions of kilowatt-hours (KWh) of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by thousands of tonnes annually.
The core focus will be the assembly of robustly engineered filtration systems for the textiles industry, each unit filling the size of a standard ISO container. For the first 10-20 applications this will be an evolving process that will then move onto workflow of RFQ and build of system from shopping list of options.
Through your understanding of the different standards in our industry that drives global procurement processes, you will lead on the sourcing, procurement and audit of suppliers for prototyping for low volume batch production to support development projects and Industries business unit pilot delivery, whilst building strong relationships across the entire supply chain.
By defining processes for our sourcing and procurement practices, you will understand how to minimise risk to the business, such as using dual sourcing strategies, whilst adhering to our BCorp requirements and values and upholding our Cradle-to-Cradle principles.
With your strong engineering background, you will input into the DFM process by knowing which questions to ask to support design alignment with supply chain and collaborate on project specifications to simplify manufacturing and procurement.
There will also be some cross-over with our Home Laundry injection-moulded product, fulfilling ongoing orders from our customer and any further white label opportunities that Matter may secure through 2025 and onwards. This will involve interfacing with Matter's contract manufacturer in Malaysia for the mass-manufacture of a plastic moulded product with electronics systems.
