What you'll do
The Programme Management Centre of Excellence (PM CoE) is a nascent business-critical capability in the Strategy Execution team tasked with delivering a step change in the performance and quality of business programme delivery.
The Senior Manager - Programme Management CoE will be accountable to the Head of Strategy Execution for leading a team of project and programme managers in the PM CoE. Through the development of best practice, consistent, simpler ways of working, together with the existing Senior Manager - PM CoE, they will foster a delivery capability which enables Business Unit /Functional Portfolio Managers to successfully deliver maximum value, in line with the enterprise-wide delivery roadmap and VFUK strategic priorities. Together with the existing Senior Manager - PM CoE, they will be accountable for:
- Providing the thought, organisational and people leadership required to build and manage an industry leading PM CoE which optimises enterprise-wide delivery performance
- Leading and managing a central pool of business delivery project & programme management professionals (c.12-20 FTE)
- Ensuring delivery excellence across all aspects of project and programme management
- Developing best practice, ensuring consistent ways of working, maximising lessons learnt and creating a culture of continuous improvement
- Pro-actively sizing the talent pool and delivery capability to the enterprise-wide demand & delivery roadmap
- Matching talent to demand - optimising delivery outcomes aligned with BU/Functional Portfolio Managers
- Establishing a project and programme management career pathway
- Attracting and developing talent
Who you are
The position requires a highly experienced delivery management professional with a mix of relevant SME and leadership experience, an ability to flex between the strategic and the operational, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and a high level of energy and flexibility to get things done and thrive in a fast-paced, agile, team-oriented environment. Critically, the successful candidate will have the credibility and leadership skills necessary to successfully manage executive stakeholders across the organisation, a large team of project and programme professionals executing business critical delivery across a matrix organisation, and the drive and determination to create a recognised industry-leading programme management delivery capability. The key competencies, knowledge and experience we are looking for include:
- Highly experienced delivery management professional
- Subject Matter Expert: Project & Programme Management
- The gravitas, credibility, and leadership skills necessary to lead and develop a highly skilled Project & Programme Management team
- Ability to flex between the strategic and the operational
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills; ability to influence and operate at the senior management level. Outstanding stakeholder management skills
- High level of energy and flexibility to get things done and thrive in a fast-paced, agile, team-oriented environment
- Telecommunications industry experience is desirable
