Senior Manager - Legal & Business Affairs - Corporate / Commercial
Join BMG's Legal & Business Affairs department! We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced lawyer to assist with BMG's general corporate/commercial legal matters, including responsibility for data protection and privacy related legal matters in conjunction with BMG's Head Office in Berlin. The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring that BMG's operations comply with legal and regulatory requirements, particularly in privacy and data security, while also providing assistance with corporate governance and certain commercial business transactions.
Key Responsibilities.
Corporate / Commercial
- Assist VP LBA UK and Head Office Corporate Legal (as applicable) with negotiation of non-music rights commercial agreements between BMG and various third-parties as required (e.g. PR and press agencies, digital marketing agreements, marketing software-as-a-service platforms, events venue owners, direct-to-consumer distribution partners).
- Support Legal and Business Affairs team in developing and maintaining its suite of precedents for its non-music rights agreements (e.g. service agreements with marketing freelancers / influencers)
- Develop and maintain BMG UK's competition Terms & Conditions in conjunction with Digital Marketing Team, and implementation of multi-territory competitions with international legal colleagues
- Ensure that BMG benefits from an increasingly digital, global commercial music environment.
- Opportunity to work-on music rights related agreements.
Data Protection and Privacy
- Working with Global Privacy and Data Protection Compliance Manager, ensure compliance with regional and global data protection and privacy laws, including the UK Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant regulations.
- Assist Global Privacy and Data Protection Compliance Manager to draft, review, and update privacy policies, data processing agreements and data protection provisions across broad range of commercial agreements.
- Advise on potential data breaches, data subject access requests, regulatory notifications and mitigation strategies.
Compliance
- Assist VP LBA UK Head Office Corporate Legal and Compliance team and Bertelsmann (BMG's parent company) with UK compliance matters.
- Actively support and collaborate with other departments in the initiation, development and implementation of processes and policies.
- Assist Head Office Corporate Legal with development and maintenance of BMG UK's compliance framework to ensure adherence to applicable laws, industry standards, codes of practice, and internal policies.
- Liaise closely with the UK marketing team and provide supervision within the Legal and Business Affairs team to ensure that audience engagement campaigns (e.g. fan competitions and digital activations) are conducted compliantly, from both a data protection and consumer-law perspective.
Legal Affairs
- Assist Legal and Business Affairs team with new areas of business as and when necessary.
- Provide reporting and critical updates /communication on significant UK legal and business affairs matters to VP, LBA UK and General Counsel/EVP Global LBA.
- Advise UK Board and senior management on various legal issues such as legal rights, and new and existing laws which impact the business.
- Assist VP, LBA UK to develop initiatives to improve legal processes, workflows, and the overall efficiency of the Legal & Business Affairs Department.
Your Profile.
- Experience working on a broad range of corporate/commercial agreements within the media sector (whether in-house or private practice), with some data protection, privacy and compliance experience preferable.
- Ability to interpret complex and technical legislation and develop policy and processes, to ensure regulatory compliance.
- A qualified lawyer or equivalent experience, working at a reputable law firm and/or in-house environment.
- First class drafting skills, organisation and ability to meet strict deadlines.
- A pro-active, creative and resilient candidate that demonstrates a collaborative approach.
