As a result of ongoing growth in the team and a new agenda of service expansion we are looking to hire an eDiscovery Senior Manager in Glasgow or London. You will be part of a global team providing cutting edge eDiscovery services to our clients and internal practice groups.

This role demands a proactive, solutions-oriented individual with a strong background in eDiscovery, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a broad range of stakeholders.

The ideal candidate will be adept at managing multiple priorities, driving innovation, and upholding the highest standards of data security and quality assurance.

Core Responsibilities

  • Leading the UK eDiscovery team.
  • Building strong networks/relationships with internal stakeholders.
  • Promoting the collaboration, knowledge sharing within the digital and eDiscovery teams.
  • Providing end-to-end legal, data and technological solutions to unique client challenges.
  • Supporting and aiding in promoting document review and due diligence in the region, applying EDRM principles.
  • Providing technical expertise to the team and other Ashurst Advance leadership.
  • Developing a close working relationship with the Senior Managers in Australia to support global initiatives across eDiscovery and digital services.
  • Providing assistance on matters where senior expertise is required or at peak demand, especially with consulting, planning, overseeing and quality assurance tasks.
  • Represent eDiscovery and Digital services within the broader business, with client-focused business development initiatives.
  • Supporting on client pitches.
  • Supporting broader strategic initiatives of the group in collaboration with the Associate Director for eDiscovery and Digital Services, UK, US & EMEA including :
    • developing strategic initiatives, working closely with our Risk Advisory team,
    • developing new capabilities that are underpinned by tech and data,
    • global business process improvement initiatives and business growth strategy,
    • focusing on 'future digital and data skills' in general, supporting the 'future-proofing' of our document review capabilities.
    • managing change and enforcing best practice methodologies for eDiscovery and Digital Services
    • continuously improving our technology capabilities and promoting the use of those
  • Proactively pursue and lead client opportunities in the region, identifying new data and tech-led opportunities across non-contentious and contentious legal services.
  • Oversee and be accountable for financial hygiene and performance for eDiscovery in the UK.
  • Proactively identify learning and development opportunities for the eDiscovery team and provide mentoring to promote their career aspirations and development.
  • Build relationships with business service stakeholders, particularly IT/InfoSec/project management, to take them on the journey of change while we re-establish our technology blueprint and new focus areas.
  • Supporting external profiling and brand promotion activities in the region

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of eDiscovery experience, working in a professional services firm, law firm or government agency.
  • Proven record of leading a high-performing team.
  • Excellent understanding of the legal framework of eDiscovery including exchange protocols and best practices across the full EDRM model.
  • Proven record in consulting and using advanced eDiscovery tools, such as GenAI and Continuous Active Learning (CAL) workflows, concept clustering, and search term analysis.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to oversee and support multiple eDiscovery matters, managing priorities and identifying efficient workflows.
  • A team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a fast paced, solutions focused environment with strict deadlines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, specifically the ability communicate technical solutions to a non-technical audience in a clear and concise manner.
  • An acute attention to detail, and ability to develop quality assurance practices into all facets of work.
  • Experience leading teams and coaching junior colleagues.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot technical and non-technical issues that arise during a project and assist in implementing simplistic and repeatable solutions.
  • Proficient with multiple document review platforms such as Relativity, Nuix Discover, and Reveal.
  • Relativity Custom Development experience advantageous
  • High levels of IT skills and competence with a knowledge of Azure/M365 administration desirable
  • Experience in undertaking data scoping and data collection exercises in accordance with industry best practice, including related certifications would be helpful.
  • Working knowledge of eDiscovery functionality in M365 and Google Workspace.
  • Understands eDiscovery workflow practices across different jurisdictions is favourable.
  • Building relationships and working collaboratively with external service providers, including managing costs.
  • Positive and willing attitude to work with an enthusiasm for innovation and continuous improvement

  • Flexibility and willingness to undertake additional work outside of core hours and / or travel, going above and beyond when required.
  • Higher education qualifications in either Law, Computer Science, Commerce, or software engineering.

Hours of work

9.00am to 5.30pm Monday - Friday. 3 days from office, 2 days from home.
