We are looking for a candidate who is keen to develop a career in NHS finance and we will actively support you with this. The successful candidate will work closely alongside Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Recovery and Project teams.

The role will provide support the Assistant Finance Manager - Costing, in managing the development and implementation of Service Level Reporting (SLR), Patient Level Costing (PLICs) and will assist in the submission of the National Cost Collection (NCC).

The Trust is expanding it's costing function in order to support a programme of work focused on developing robust costing models and project financials. The ultimate goal to utilise data driven insights to inform decision-making across the Trust and support the creation of a sustainable financial recovery pipeline.

Main duties of the job
• Assist and support Assistant Finance Manager - Costing in the development and implementation of the Trust's Patient Level Information Costing System (PLICS), Service Line Reporting (SLR) tools and The Costing Transformation Programme.
• Assist and support with the successful submission of the yearly National Cost Collection whilst complying with national guidance and working continuously to improve the quality and accuracy of data submitted
• Support the development of benchmarking and make use of benchmarking tools to aid efficiency and improvement within service areas. Contribute to promoting the use of Model Hospital and other benchmarking tools
• Where areas of data quality has been identified, work with finance, operational and clinical staff to cleanse, refine or manipulate data, for it to be successfully incorporated into the costing system and meet costing standard requirements
• Assist the Assistant Finance Manager - Costing with complex patient level analysis, provide appropriate data needed to undertake this analysis and follow up on agreed actions
• Assist with the provision and development of various reports designed to communicate PLICS/SLR information to operational managers, clinicians, divisional and Trust boards.
• Keep up to date with National Costing Standards, assist with their implementation and incorporation within the costing model

Training & Qualification

Essential criteria

  • Part qualified member of CCAB body or equivalent experience
  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of CPD

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Understanding of NHS Finance regime
  • Experience of the production, analysis, and presentation of complex financial information

Desirable criteria

  • Production of annual NHS Reference Costs or Training Costs submission

Skills & Ability

Essential criteria

  • Advanced user of IT including all Microsoft office packages

Desirable criteria

  • Knowledge of SQL
  • Working knowledge of PLICs, Costing systems and the Costing Transformation Programme
