37 hours per week term time only + 5 days (40 Weeks Per Year)
This post is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing team committed to improving the lives and educational outcomes for looked after children in Newport. The Looked after Children Education (LACE) team sit within Children's Services, working closely with education colleagues and other agencies to improve the education experience and learning outcomes for all our looked after learners.
The successful candidate will need to have the skills to engage, support and empower young people to aspire and achieve their full potential. Under the supervision of the LACE Co-ordinator, you will work collaboratively with a wider 'team around the child' involving education, carers, social workers and other agencies. You will have excellent literacy and numeracy skills; a good understanding of Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and education; the ability to deal calmly with different situations as they arise and be able to develop good relationships with learners, carers and a wide range of professionals. The role will require face to face support with young people in schools/education settings (age 5 to 16); co-ordinating and chairing Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings and a range of activities linked to improving outcomes for our looked after children.
