Registration

Essential criteria

  • Eligible to apply for full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid License to Practise with the General Medical Council (or demonstrates eligibility to apply for registration and license)

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • A primary medical Qualification accepted by the General Medical Council UK and verified by ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates
  • MD/DNB or equivalent degree in paediatrics in a 3 year post graduate programme (recognised by RCPCH)
  • Evidence of achievement level 1 RCPCH equivalent competencies in Paediatrics/Neonates
  • Evidence of completion of formal 'hands on' training in Advanced Paediatric Life Support and Neonatal Life Support (training in date)

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of active involvement in Audit (clear description, outcomes & appropriate experience for level of application)

Desirable criteria

  • Relevant experience in other specialties that would complement a career in Paediatrics/Neonates
  • Evidence of relevant peer review papers and other
  • Extracurricular activities/achievements relevant to career in Paediatrics/Neonates
  • Research experience
  • Relevant contribution to management within Paediatrics/Neonates (rotas, committees etc)

Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of research
  • Demonstrable skills in listening, reading, writing and speaking in English that enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMCs Good Medical Practice (2013)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in order to be able to write & present reports at board level

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of academic prizes and honours at postgraduate level
  • Teaching achievement (including attendance at teaching courses, etc)

Essential criteria

  • Is empathetic and sensitive to patients needs
  • Able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information
  • Capacity to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate a non-judgemental approach towards others
  • Is able to influence and persuade effectively
  • Positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team
  • Displays honesty, integrity, awareness of confidentiality & ethical issues
