Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Primary medical qualification (eg. MBChB, MBBS)
- Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary for the completion of Foundation training or equivalent training and experience
- Evidence of achievement of ST1 and ST2 or equivalent competencies in Medicine and completion of MRCP
Desirable criteria
- Completion of other post graduate qualification
- Evidence of completion of formal 'hands on' training in Advanced Life Support (ALS)
Registration
Essential criteria
- Full registration with the General Medical Council & a valid Licence to Practise with the General Medical Council (or demonstrates eligibility to apply for registration and license)
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of the workings of the NHS
- Demonstration of acquisition of the level of knowledge and skills necessary.
- Proven ability to take clinical history & undertake examination
- Good organisational skills and time management
- Use of evidence based practice
- Participation in Quality Improvement
- Understanding of clinical governance
- Information Technology skills
Desirable criteria
- Research experience
- Experience of working within General Medicine in the NHS
- Demonstrates an interest in medical specialty training
- Teaching achievement (including attendance at teaching courses, etc)
Communication
Essential criteria
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013). This could be demonstrated by one of the following: - Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English - Have the following scores in the academic international English Language Testing System (IELTS): Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6. - Occupational English Test (OET) certificate which must show: - You took the medicine version of the test - You got at least a grade 'B' in each testing area (speaking, listening, reading and writing)
- Empathetic and sensitive to patients needs
- Able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information
- Able to influence and persuade effectively
Other
Essential criteria
- The applicant must demonstrate appropriate professional behaviour, ie integrity, honesty, confidentiality, as set out in the GMC's Good Medical Practice (2013)
- Capacity to take responsibility for own actions and demonstrate a non-judgemental approach towards others
- Satisfactory work health assessment
- Eligible to live and work in the UK
