Person specification

Qualifications & Training

Essential criteria

  • Medical Degree (Mb ChB or equivalent)
  • Significant experience in Ophthalmology
  • Completion of basic surgical training
  • FRCOphth (or equivalent postgraduate qualification)
  • Ability to manage a range of emergency and elective conditions within the scope of ophthalmology
  • Ability to perform routine cataract surgery unsupervised
  • Proven experience in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma

Desirable criteria

  • Completion of Higher Specialist Training or within 3 months of CCT
  • Postgraduate Degree (e.g. MD, PhD)

Other Requirements

Essential criteria

  • Full registration and a licence to practice with the General Medical Council

Audit and Teaching

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of Clinical Audit in Ophthalmology
  • Commitment to continuing medical education and the requirements of clinical governance and audit
  • Evidence of teaching and training junior medical staff
  • Evidence of teaching Undergraduate Students
  • Evidence of teaching or training allied health professionals

Academic Achievements

Essential criteria

  • Publications in recognised ophthalmic or related journals
  • Evidence of Research projects relating to glaucoma
  • Willingness to undertake glaucoma related research during fellowship post

Desirable criteria

  • Distinctions or Prizes during undergraduate training
