Job Description

The role

Checkout.com is seeking a talented Senior Legal Counsel with a strong commercial contracts background to join our Legal Team. As Senior Legal Counsel you will be expected to advise and negotiate on contracts with our merchants, suppliers and partners. You will work closely with all areas of the business and take a consultative approach to solving complex legal, regulatory and business issues. The successful candidate will be able to lead across a diverse range of global challenges, demonstrating excellent critical judgment with a hands-on approach.

You will be joining a rapidly growing team in one of Europe's most valuable FinTechs! The Checkout Legal team's mission is to be a legal team that exceeds expectations. We do this by providing trusted advice and balancing risk management by fusing dedication, innovation, collaboration and integrity.

How you'll make an impact

• You will lead change within the team and the business, including collaborating closely on strategic, novel cross-functional and international projects
• You will manage and develop more junior members of the team and be involved in maintaining and developing team culture
• You will proactively improve processes, self-help material and other training guides; both for the team and the business
• You will lead comprehensive negotiations with third parties across a wide variety of commercial agreements, including merchant agreements, strategic partnerships and supplier contracts
• You will help Checkout.com launch new products, always ensuring that Checkout.com's contractual documentation remains compliant with legal and regulatory requirements
• You will help the business continue to expand internationally; manage global legal risk while providing creative, proactive and results orientated advice
• You will help resolve contractual disputes and manage litigation

Qualifications

About you:

• UK or other common law qualification as a solicitor with 8 + years proven experience either in-house or in private practice
• Experience working in the fintech/payments space (e.g. payment institution, e-money institution, bank) is desirable though not essential
• Successful track record of negotiating sophisticated contracts with autonomy
• Proven project management skills, accompanied by excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Strong team leader with stakeholder management skills
• Ability to quickly, succinctly and accurately understand, analyze, summarize and respond to queries about contract provisions
• Proven interpersonal, negotiation and persuasion skills
• Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain solid, trusting, working relationships internally and externally
• Collaborative working style with demonstrated track record of building consensus and achieving results
