This role will support RM's TTS business. TTS works closely with teachers and education professionals to develop hundreds of innovative and unique resources for learners at all stages of their lives - from preschool to higher education and professional. From furniture and stationery to our innovative programming robot 'Loti-bot', the quality resources TTS provide enhances educational outcomes and gives every child, every day, a reason to love learning.

As Senior Legal Counsel you will be part of the Group Legal Team supporting TTS, which is based in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire. The role is broad and high profile, working with the TTS Executive team and providing advice and guidance across all areas of the TTS business. TTS is at an exciting stage of development as it looks to build further upon its UK and international success. In particular, TTS is looking to greatly expand its international capabilities and presence and you will be a key part of that, helping with company and legal strategy, contracting structures and templates and seeking external advice where necessary.

Being a broad, inhouse counsel role, you will draft and negotiate customer, distributor, supplier and manufacturer contracts and build, manage and update TTS's standard terms and conditions for these functions. The role also covers providing support for the businesses' existing functions in compliance, product safety and ESG. You will work alongside RM's Internal Audit function and contribute to the risk management programme and support the drafting and implementation of policies where appropriate. You will support the business with disputes and litigation where these arise.

TTS has a portfolio of products that have been designed and developed by our award winning product development teams. Apart from working on the agreements to support the design, development and manufacture of these products, you will also manage the businesses' IP portfolio, with assistance from outside counsel where required.

Experience

The ideal candidate would already have significant experience working for a retail business with an international portfolio. Whilst TTS is focused on B2B sales, experience of a B2C sales environment would be an advantage.

Whilst RM has a well-established and experienced Product Safety team, knowledge of and experience with Product Safety law would be an advantage.

The position requires the following:

  • Qualitied to practise law in England & Wales or a compatible common law system with several years of post-qualification experience.
  • The ability to interpret, draft and negotiate contractual documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Effective planning and organising skills to handle the variety of work, and to prioritise activities.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • The ability to recognise, assess, interpret, and mitigate risk.
  • Own and manage relationships with senior staff and senior customer and partner contacts outside of RM.
  • Resident in and right to work in the UK.
