Your new role

This is a full time position and as our new Senior Legal Advisor you will be part of a dynamic team based in various locations across England. You will deal with non-contentious matters including complex contractual arrangements. Your role will focus on identification and management of legal risk, contract negotiation and drafting coupled with the provision of commercial and pragmatic legal advice. You will also provide contractual support on matters which may arise during the lifecycle of the project. In addition, an important part of the role is promoting legal awareness across Ramboll through delivering training and you will be involved in providing support to the Legal team's training offering.

This role is key in ensuring that the Legal team's support to the business is efficient, accurate and proactive so that contract negotiations can progress as swiftly as possible but without unnecessary risk.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Reviewing primarily construction professional services contracts (both bespoke and industry standard such as NEC and JCT) as well as other project legal documents, including responding to requests for contract amendments to Ramboll standard agreements, with a view to achieving swift and appropriate conclusion of contract negotiations
  • Providing tailored advice to the Executive Board on risks in contracts and preparing necessary supporting documentation
  • Working on a range of projects across different markets with a strong emphasis on transport and offshore wind projects
  • Advising project directors and project managers on risks related to contractual issues arising within projects both prior to execution of the relevant agreement and during the project lifecycle
  • Liaising with other support functions such as the Finance and Commercial Teams in relation to contract support and advice, advising on and assisting with internal governance and the preparation of the required approvals
  • Leading or assisting in contract negotiations with external clients or their representatives
  • Responding to internal legal queries
  • Advising on appropriate contract forms and specific legal aspects (research if necessary) in a practical and commercially focussed way
  • Preparing guidelines and forms for internal circulation
  • Occasionally producing and delivering legal training

About you

You will be a legal advisor or construction lawyer with experience in reviewing professional appointments, frameworks, collateral warranties, novation agreements and other ancillary documents. To succeed in this role you must have a legal background, with substantial experience advising on complex engineering or construction contracts either as an in-house contract reviewer/legal advisor or contract manager however applications from private practice solicitors are also welcomed.

You will have:

  • Degree or equivalent qualifications in law
  • Substantial experience in providing in-house legal support in a consultancy or engineering company or advising developers, contractors or similar clients in a law firm
  • A solid understanding of contract and construction law and associated contractual risks
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to take a risk-balanced approach
  • Experience in complex construction/consultancy contract drafting/negotiation
  • Excellent communication abilities with strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
  • Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • The ability to meet deadlines and prioritise workload effectively
