Senior Lecturer in Engineering

This job is brought to you by Jobs/Redefined, the UK's leading over-50s age inclusive jobs board.

About us

We are a vibrant, diverse Department that looks to lead innovation in education and research at one of the world's leading universities. To support our ambition, King's has invested in new multi-million-pound teaching and research laboratories of more than 3000 sqm for the Department at heart of its Strand campus, which opened in August 2022.

We celebrate diversity and actively promote an inclusive environment and encourage applicants from underrepresented groups. In moving our ambitions forward, we are continuing to appoint academics to join us in shaping the future of education and research for King's Engineering. We are developing a strong research profile with activities in areas such as mechatronics, thermofluids, materials, sensors, signal and information processing, electronics, electrical engineering, materials, and telecommunications. As we are looking to both strengthen and expand our activities, we are seeking candidates with research and experience in areas including design and analysis for resilient systems, human-centred systems design, and systems design and lifecycle methodologies such as model based systems engineering and emerging approaches in systems thinking.

We have research links in our Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences, across the College, and beyond. King's is part of the London Centre for Nanotechnology (LCN) with shared research and facilities between King's, UCL and Imperial. All of these foster an active, vibrant, and collaborative research environment.

We offer undergraduate and postgraduate education, with a distinctive approach, combining traditional teaching methods with modern, project-based learning, catering for the needs of our students and the industries in which they will work. It is essential that applicants have the enthusiasm and commitment needed to ensure the success of these programmes.

About the role

As part of the growth of the Department of Engineering, we are seeking candidates with research and/or experience in complex systems, particularly for whole systems and 'wicked' problems in engineering. Areas of interest include systems approaches, systems thinking, human centred design, system dynamics, and model-based systems engineering.

The role requires the enthusiasm and commitment to contribute to the continued success of our distinctive approach education which combines traditional teaching methods with modern, project-based learning, catering for the needs of our students and the industries in which they will work. The role holder will also be expected to develop a distinct research profile that will advance and elevate the research in the Department and at King's. Contribution to administration and citizenship through departmental and/or faculty roles and support of student experience and outreach is a key part of ensuring the success of the Department, Faculty, and students.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria

1. PhD in a relevant engineering discipline - substantial demonstrable relevant industry experience may also be considered.

2. Ability to define and lead a research area and a growing research record as evidenced by research outputs

3. Potential to attract external research funds and a desire and vision to advance research

4. Ability to develop and teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules in engineering and supervise student individual and group projects

5. Ability to supervise postgraduate students and/or experience in or directing an individual/team research project or program of work at an international standard

6. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills

7. Ability to manage and interact with staff and students at all levels and to make a significant contribution to administrative work

8. Ability and willingness to work effectively on personal initiative as well as in a team and to meet deadlines
