Our Land team, based across Scotland, is seeking a Senior Land Consultant to join the team on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity to join the largest Land Referencing business in the UK to make a meaningful and lasting contribution to the success of high-profile infrastructure projects within Scotland and the wider UK business for WSP's Clients.

This role can be based in one of our offices in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Perth with the flexibility of hybrid working between one of these locations and home. There is scope for a suitable candidate to be located in the North of Scotland or in Northern England, with availability for travel to site or office locations around Scotland.

Your new role, what's involved?

  • Manage and coordinate the technical delivery of land and consents projects whilst being a trusted advisor for our clients for large infrastructure projects in the Energy, Renewables, Road and Rail sectors.
  • Support the writing of bids/tenders to secure opportunities from internal and external clients. Lead on and contribute to business development and client relationship management (externally and internally).
  • Support in motivating the team in Edinburgh/Glasgow/Perth ensuring that the team has the necessary support and training when delivering projects.
  • Manage the delivery of land access, landowner engagement and consenting / statutory processes relative to projects based in Scotland.

YOUR TEAM

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of WSP's Land team in the delivery of land referencing, land acquisition, land access, formal consents, statutory orders and landowner engagement.

Our clients develop major highway, rail, energy and renewable infrastructure and projects all of which impact privately owned land. You will lead a team of Land Consultants in the liaison with landowners that may be affected by Projects, obtaining the appropriate consents, securing land access and managing landowner engagement to achieve positive project outcomes. Recent high profile projects include A9 Dualling, SSEN and various onshore renewables clients.

As part of our Land Team you will combine office, home and on-site working to manage the technical delivery of land and consenting projects ensuring the validity, accuracy and auditability of information collected. You will work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing a team of Land Consultants to deliver the necessary information required to identify, notify, engage, gain access to lands and secure required consents with landowners affected by infrastructure projects.

There are further opportunities to provide training to our Land team, widening your involvement into new sectors and regions, as well as working with our Engagement, Digital, Surveying Services, Environmental and Planning colleagues to gain a broader understanding of infrastructure development. We will support your professional development with a relevant professional organisation such as Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Royal Geographical Society (RGS).

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Successfully led a technical team of land consultants to deliver land consenting or land assembly services on infrastructure projects. Experience of projects in Scotland / Scottish land ownership information would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Knowledge and experience of Scotland and UK statutory consent requirements, such as a Hybrid Bill, DCO, CPO, and Vesting Orders as well as an understanding of the land and property industry would be beneficial
  • Good commercial awareness with an understanding of budget, scope, change control and other project management activities.
  • The ability to work in a fast-paced environment on major infrastructure projects in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Evidence of leading teams to deliver complex work.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills and ability to liaise at all levels with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Confidence and experience in providing technical advice to clients.
  • Highly motivated and with good industry network.
  • Enthusiasm for continuous professional development, and professional accreditation.
  • A full UK driving licence is required.
  • General IT skills, Microsoft Office suite including Teams, and basic skills with GIS/mapping tools.
