We have a vacancy for a senior IT analyst to join our Clinical Scientific Computing team within the Department of Medical Physics and Biomedical Engineering at UCLH.

As a key member of the team of 5 analysts, you will report to the Team Lead for the UCLH Clinical Scientific Computing Technical Operations Team of IT Analysts and will have the satisfaction of applying your IT knowledge and experience, your customer focus and your team working skills to support clinicians and their patients across our hospitals.

You will already be an experienced IT Analyst working independently, providing excellent support to service users. We would prefer that you have experience in supporting clinical systems, connected medical devices and end user technology within a hospital environment, however we also welcome applications from qualified candidates with solid IT experience developed in more general IT environments. You will be able to demonstrate that you are a team player, working to high standards of performance and safety, and motivated to always ensure services are provided to enhance and improve safe patient care.

Main duties of the job

You will work closely with the IT Analyst Team Lead as well as with the other IT analysts within your team and the clinical scientists within Clinical Scientific Computing. You will develop strong and productive working relationships with staff in the clinical teams that you support.

The successful person will be required to:
• Provide second line support of end user technology and first line, when required.
• Setup and provide second line support of medical device connectivity and data storage.
• Provide second line support of servers and file share management, and first line, when required.
• Provide systems administration and second line support for specific clinical applications in BAU.
• Project manage aspects of systems upgrade and implementation projects.

You will ensure that all work is completed in line with the department's quality management system, with all support requests recorded in the team's ticket management system. You will ensure that your team follows good practice in record keeping and communicates effectively with customers.

The Department of Medical Physics & Biomedical Engineering is a central resource of professional scientific and engineering knowledge and skills within UCLH. Our services support clinical services and research and development throughout UCLH.

The Clinical Scientific Computing Section provides services to clinical and scientific teams and to researchers, predominantly throughout UCLH, across the following areas of work:
• Whole life cycle support of medical IT systems.
• Management of computing infrastructure including desktops, servers, and file storage.
• Medical device software and healthcare software development.
• Healthcare data science and healthcare informatics.
• Support for research, development and digital innovation.

Knowledge and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree level qualification in IT / Computer Science / Engineering, or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience.

Desirable criteria

  • Professional IT qualification (MCP / ITSM / ITIL4 PMP / Agile)
  • Eligibility for membership of the Register of Clinical Technologists.
  • Membership of a relevant Professional Institute.

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience working in a scientific healthcare environment.
  • Experience of the medical application of complex computer and electronic systems.
  • Experience of participating in projects with multiple stakeholders.
  • Experience of having responsibility for delivering services to users, or customers within healthcare environments.
  • Experience in configuring, installing and administering operating systems such as Microsoft Windows and Linux on both desktop and complex server systems.
  • Experience administering enterprise server applications such as databases, antivirus, backup, LDAP.
  • Experience of configuring and troubleshooting networked devices.

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria

  • Ability to work in awkward positions and move heavy equipment when installing computer or network hardware or cabling.
  • Ability to work for prolonged periods in internal areas with no natural light.
  • Ability to cope with occasional exposure to distressing circumstances when working in clinical areas with patients.
  • Ability to concentrate on technical detail across multiple interruptions by phone or email.
