We accelerate investment and innovation in health and life sciences in London by promoting the sector, making powerful connections, convening the ecosystem, and supporting individual life sciences companies to help them grow and thrive. MedCity also works with key stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing in the city.
The Life Sciences Cluster Development team plays a key role in promoting London as a global hub for life sciences innovation. In partnership with academic institutions, research charities, life sciences property developers, the NHS, and industry leaders, the team drives foreign direct investment (FDI), supports the growth of infrastructure for R&D, and fosters collaboration between international life sciences companies and London's research and healthcare ecosystem. The team is committed to securing London's position as a leader in life sciences, advancing cutting-edge innovations in areas such as cell and gene therapies, AI, diagnostics, genomics, and healthcare technologies.
Purpose of the roleThe Senior Investment Manager - Life Sciences will be responsible for attracting and converting international life sciences companies to invest and/or locate in London, delivering FDI projects, and supporting the development of London's life sciences infrastructure. The role will involve identifying, researching and engaging with potential FDI leads, fostering partnerships between academia, property developers, investors, and businesses to promote London's innovation clusters, aligning supply and demand for R&D space, and representing London on the global stage to drive inward investment. This role is critical in ensuring that London's life sciences ecosystem continues to grow and thrive, benefiting both the city, the region and the UK.
Key Tasks
Attracting and Converting Inward Investment:
- Identify, nurture, and convert international life sciences companies into successful inward investment projects for London.
- Deliver FDI wins that contribute to Gross Value Add (GVA) and strategic growth targets for the city's life sciences sector.
- Develop bespoke client propositions and guide companies to suitable R&D partnerships, lab space, and specialized expertise in London and the UK.
- Work closely with the L&P Market teams, to help nurture, develop and then successfully convert inward investment projects
- Act as a 'concierge' for companies, providing in-depth sector knowledge and expertise, as well as seamless support in navigating London's ecosystem and connecting them with industry leaders, trade bodies, universities and other centres of sector excellence
- Monitor and manage FDI projects through CRM systems, ensuring accurate reporting and tracking of sector and company progress.
- Developing and delivering bespoke visit programmes for companies and their senior representatives which includes chairing face to face meetings
- Represent London and MedCity at national and international conferences, trade missions, and events, promoting the city as a premier destination for life sciences.
- Lead or contribute to the organization of events, trade missions, and marketing efforts aimed at attracting life sciences companies to London including co-ordinating international delegations during LLSW.
- There is an expectation of occasional 'out of hours' work and travel and attendance at external/internal events. This will include frequent travel to Europe to meet with Life Sciences clients.
Infrastructure Development & Cluster Growth:
- Support the Head of Cluster Development and wider team in activities building and promotion London's life sciences ecosystem and infrastructure.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders, including academia, NHS, government bodies, and industry leaders, to support wider cluster development team and MedCity programs.
You'll have/bring
Essential:
- Education: BSc degree in life sciences or related field (PhD or MBA desirable).
- Experience: Significant experience in life sciences or healthcare including academic research and/or industry experience in life sciences companies.
- Experience using the CRMs and Microsoft Office suite of products.
- Sector Knowledge: In-depth understanding of London's life sciences ecosystem, including R&D infrastructure, innovation, and key sectors such as advanced therapies, AI, and diagnostics.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of the areas within Innovation & Life Sciences, including but not limited to digital health, healthcare/NHS market access, AI and edtech would be an advantage.

- Stakeholder Management: Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with senior stakeholders across sectors, including academia, industry, and government.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to develop and implement strategies that align with broader sector goals, supporting the growth of London's life sciences cluster.
- Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of overseeing complex investment initiatives from concept to completion.
- Communication & Networking: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent London and MedCity in international forums and engage diverse audiences.
- Resilience & Adaptability: Ability to adapt in fast-changing environments and manage competing priorities effectively.
- Commercial Acumen: Entrepreneurial mindset with a keen understanding of market trends, R&D infrastructure needs, and life sciences sector dynamics.
- Knowledge of a foreign language would be an advantage.
