Senior Insight Analyst
Location: Birmingham, UK
Reports to: Head of E15 Data Insights
Salary: £65,000
Turn Data into Decisions That Matter
We're looking for a Senior Insight Analyst to join our team in Birmingham. This is a fantastic opportunity for an analytically curious, commercially minded professional who wants to own end-to-end insight delivery and play a visible role in shaping business decisions.
In this role, you'll go beyond reporting - uncovering what's really driving performance, telling powerful data stories, and helping stakeholders make smarter, evidence-based decisions. You'll also support the development of junior analysts and help raise standards across our insight function.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Senior Insight Analyst, you'll lead medium-complexity analytical workstreams from brief to impact, working closely with stakeholders across the business.
You'll:
- Own insight projects end to end - from problem definition to delivery and sign-off
- Work with stakeholders to shape analytical questions that are measurable and outcome-focused
- Combine and validate multiple data sources to create high-quality analytical datasets
- Apply advanced analytical techniques such as segmentation, forecasting, trend analysis, cohort analysis and driver analysis
- Translate data into clear, compelling insight stories that explain:
- what's happening
- why it's happening
- the business impact
- and what actions should be taken
- Deliver insight through presentations, dashboards and reports that are clear, visual and actionable
- Recommend practical actions, explaining risks, confidence levels and dependencies
- Embed insight into business processes and track the impact of recommendations
Reporting, Analytics & Data Quality
You'll also play a key role in strengthening our analytics capability:
- Build and maintain dashboards, models and reporting solutions with minimal supervision
- Use strong SQL, Power BI and Databricks skills to produce insight-rich outputs
- Improve existing reporting through automation, simplification and better clarity
- Identify data quality issues early and propose pragmatic improvements
- Ensure consistency in definitions, calculations and reporting logic
- Work with data and engineering teams to improve data models and governed datasets
Stakeholder Engagement & Influence
- Build trusted relationships with stakeholders across the organisation
- Challenge assumptions and provide analytical guidance
- Facilitate discovery sessions and requirements workshops where needed
- Present insights confidently to managers and senior leaders
Mentoring & Team Contribution
- Provide informal coaching, QA and support to Junior Insight Analysts
- Contribute to shared standards, templates and documentation
- Help develop best practice in storytelling, SQL, visualisation and insight delivery
The Kind of Work You'll Get Involved In
Your insights will support areas such as:
- Pricing and promotion effectiveness
- Product ranging and space optimisation
- Store opening hours and operational efficiency
- Shelf positioning and planogram analysis
- Forecasting and "what if" scenario modelling
- Dashboard design and continuous improvement
- Data quality management and improvement initiatives
- Collaboration with data science teams on segmentation, demand forecasting and recommendation models
What We're Looking For
Technical & Analytical Skills
- Strong SQL with hands-on experience using Power BI and Databricks
- 2-3 years' experience analysing commercial, financial, operational or customer data
- Experience applying analytical frameworks such as forecasting, segmentation and variance analysis
- Ability to design dashboards that drive action, not just display metrics
Commercial & Problem-Solving Skills
- Structured problem solver who can break complex questions into clear analytical tasks
- Able to identify root causes and performance drivers, not just report outcomes
Communication & Behaviours
- Confident communicator who can tailor insight to different audiences
- Comfortable presenting to senior stakeholders
- Organised, proactive and able to manage multiple priorities
- Supportive and constructive when working with junior colleagues
What Success Looks Like
- Insights you deliver lead to real business actions and decisions
- Stakeholders see you as a trusted analytical partner
- Reporting becomes more efficient, automated and insightful
- Junior analysts value your guidance and support
- You help raise standards across the insight team
