Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Server)

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Support the IT Infrastructure Manager in the delivery of IT services to the published service level agreements and develop them to provide an efficient and technically capable service.
  • Investigate technically complex IT issues (incidents) raised to the Service Desk and escalated by the second/third line support resources.
  • Head up the investigation, resolution and documentation of root causes of IT problems including severity level 1 incidents (system/departmental outages) and performance issues.
  • Support the IT Infrastructure Manager with the development and annual review of IT disaster recovery plans to ensure that the IT Infrastructure can be recovered in the event of an IT disaster and as part of Trust-wide business continuity planning.
  • Take part in the research and development of all elements of the IT Infrastructure - determining what future technology would be of benefit to the Trust and how it should be implemented.
  • Develop processes and procedures to ensure the IT infrastructure is proactively and robustly maintained to the highest standards on behalf of MFT and its customers.
  • Ensure the Infrastructure Team's issue resolution targets are met and calls are updated accordingly in the service desk software management platform.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Computer or related science degree
  • Specific technical courses (e.g. Cloud, Server and/or infrastructure)
  • Cyber Security Credentials (such as CSSP or CSMP etc.)
  • A-Level, diploma or apprenticeship level IT qualifications

Knowledge

Essential criteria

  • IT standards and system management methodologies.
  • Domain, AD, Group Policy Management.
  • Backup, Restore, DR, HA and Resiliency.
  • Hypervisors, Storage, HCI and Capacity Management,
  • Knowledge and understanding of key protocols

Experience

Essential criteria

  • 5 years experience in a enterprise level support role
  • Analysis of data to identify problem areas and implement solutions
  • Proven experience of disaster recovery concepts & testing
  • Handling complex organisational and customer issues
  • Knowledge of hypervisor and server management at scale
  • Cyber security experience
