The post-holder will take responsibility for the delivery of specific area(s) of technical work including training and co-ordinating other members of the technical team to deliver that work; validation and verification of technical processes relating to that area, monitoring and feeding back to responsible scientists on quality and timeliness of technical processing.
The post-holder will be required to manage referrals, ensure appropriate testing is assigned and all relevant information is available
The post-holder will be required to oversee and monitor the management of internal samples processing and outsourcing of tests and take responsibility for giving advice or guidance when required.
The post-holder will carry out genetic tests and undertake, plus oversee, analytical and reporting duties and other analytical methodologies after appropriate arises.
The post-holder will carry out duties relating to the Quality Management System, Health and Safety or Procurement of Reagents and/or equipment.
The post-holder will be required to deputise when the need arises
The ability to work well in a team and be able to communicate effectively with others is of paramount importance. The role is full time, however part time and flexible working arrangements will be considered.

Training and qualifications
Essential criteria
- BSc Hons in relevant subject
- HCPC registration or on the voluntary register or have adequate experience to be in a position to undertake training to gain professional HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
- MSc in relevant subject
- IBMS Specialist Diploma in relevant subject
Experience
Essential criteria
- Several years' experience in a UK Regional Genetics Service or equivalent human genetics laboratory experience.
- Conscientious, Meticulous
- Demonstrates ability to organise their own work effectively.
- Keyboard skills and computer literacy
- Able to demonstrate competency in appropriate genomics laboratory techniques.
- Understanding of UKAS accreditation standards and how they affect day to day management of samples though the laboratory
Desirable criteria
- Minimum 2 years post HCPC or voluntary State Registration experience
- Experience of leading/managing a team
Communication and relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Able to communicate clearly and precisely, both verbally and in writing.
- Must be capable of working well as part of the team in a friendly and supportive way
Desirable criteria
- Experience of managing other staff
Analytical judgement
Essential criteria
- Must be able to analyse and distil information from several sources to make informed judgements
- Experience of numerous genomic analysis methods and the interpretation of those results.
- Must be capable of the concentration required for the accurate transfer of materials and information required for a job (were, e.g., mix-up of patient information or results can be disastrous)
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrates knowledge of advanced techniques
- Shows and awareness of method development and new technologies
Planning and organisation skills
Essential criteria
- Must be able to prioritise own work to carry out multiple tasks in order to complete each in a timely fashion
Desirable criteria
- Organisation and management of a specific team's workload in order to help the department maintain NHSE key performance indicators
Physical skills
Essential criteria
- Must be capable of the manual dexterity required for the manipulation of small volumes of solution.
Other
Essential criteria
- Must be computer literate, with knowledge of standard office programmes and be capable of learning to use laboratory -specific software
- Must be able to demonstrate an interest in genomics and molecular medicine and show commitment to a scientific career
Desirable criteria
- IT skills, preferably + bioinformatics

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

- Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£49.50 for enhanced and £21.50 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month's pay).
