Brief Description

Manage provision of comprehensive geospatial analysis within the Region or Route. Liaise with the Asset Information team, internal customers, and external customers and specialists within niche suppliers to define and build innovative business solutions using advanced GIS analysis techniques so these solutions meet clients' needs and inform their decision making.

Experience in FME advantageous.

About the role (External)

Your Main Responsibilities will be to:

1. Manage the provision of innovative business solutions developed using advanced GIS techniques to internal and external customers and stakeholders

2. Lead the identification of business and safety risk associated with these solutions and other activities, and work with others to reduce risk to agreed acceptable levels

3. Lead the development and maintenance of a library of innovative business solutions using advanced GIS techniques

4. Develop and implement relevant operating processes and procedures for the business solutions developed using advanced GIS techniques

5. Develop and implement an assurance framework and KPIs for the data collection and feature extraction services associated with Survey as A Service

6. Work with stakeholders to identify future requirements for geospatial business solutions and assess the impact on current resources, processes and systems, and thereby prioritise the pipeline of delivery of new solutions. Where appropriate, rapidly develop prototypes to demonstrate potential business solutions

7. Facilitate the team's participation in, and responses to, regulatory audits and reviews of geospatial business solutions and capabilities, and any subsequent recommendations

8. Facilitate benchmarking and implement identified best practice and other capability improvement initiatives throughout the team. Keep abreast of evolving trends within the geospatial industry, to identify potential new opportunities for innovative geospatial business solutions

9. Lead the monitoring, analysis and reporting of the effectiveness of the geospatial business solutions, and proactively progress improvements

10. Lead communication on geospatial business solutions and promote awareness of the emerging capabilities and associated benefits throughout the organisation

11. Act as company specialist on geospatial business solutions, providing advice to internal and external customers and stakeholders. Maintain close links with geospatial technical experts in other companies, to ensure continual evolution aligned with best practise

You will ideally have

• Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant subject

• Professional qualification in GI/GIS or a closely related discipline

• Excellent communication and analytical skills, with proven ability to communicate and present information effectively and appropriately

• Substantial knowledge of the use and potential of GIS based systems

• Proven experience of using GIS based technologies to provide innovative business solutions

• Proven ability to work with senior industry stakeholders to understand their requirements

• Proven experience in managing and developing teams to achieve high performance

• Demonstrable experience in the use of related technologies (e.g. Oracle, SQL, Windows Advanced Server, HPUX, IIS)

• Expert in geospatial and relational database design, development or implementation

• Awareness of GI industry developments and how emerging GI technologies can be applied within Network Rail and the railway industry

• Membership of a professional body with chartered status

• Experience of using ArcGIS software

• Good knowledge of the rail industry and its regulatory framework

• Understanding of railway infrastructure

• Experience of extracting and manipulating information from multiple sources, including databases

• Experience of Ordnance Survey map products

• Experience in designing and developing web-based applications
