What You'll Do:

The Senior Flight Dynamics Software Engineer reports to the Mission Analysis and Flight Dynamics Engineering Manager and works with the Flight Dynamics team to develop and maintain the Flight Dynamics software at the OneWeb Satellite Operations Center (SOC) to meet current and future operational needs. This individual is integral to the development and improvement of all Flight Dynamics System domains in the SOC. They support system architecture, software development and prototyping, integration and validation, and provide operational engineering support to in-orbit operations and mission analysis. This individual must be familiar with cloud-based software architecture and automation orchestration. The candidate shall demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision in an agile-based team environment.

The candidate may periodically staff the on-call support rotation such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Flight Dynamics Operations Team on a 24/7 basis.

Duties will include:

  • Architect, develop and maintain cloud-based flight dynamics software including orbit determination and prediction, maneuver and attitude optimisation and planning, conjunction assessment
  • Replace repetitive tasks with robust automation and orchestration
  • Perform development activities through the software development lifecycle
  • Troubleshoot Fleet Management and Flight Dynamics System issues in a highly critical operational environment
  • Create test plans and perform functional software testing
  • Support system readiness, planning, preparation, execution, and evaluation for all phases of spacecraft lifetime; to launch to mission to de-orbit
  • Be an integral part of the business-wide software engineering centre of excellence and ensure best practices across the Flight Dynamics System technical stack.
  • Mentor and guide a talented team of Software Engineers and peer review their work

What it Takes:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience related to development of complex cloud-based systems (AWS preferred)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in Java, Python, C, or C++
  • Working level knowledge and experience in
  • Building and configuring automated systems
  • Software discipline process development and deployment
  • Developing RESTful web services
  • Debugging operational software and root cause analysis
  • Unix/Linux OS based development environment
  • Application development with Relational and Non-Relational Databases
  • XML and JSON data structures
  • Microservices development and deployment
  • Conducting detailed peer code reviews
  • Knowledge of software version control and configuration management
  • Experience with Docker, Jira, Confluence, Git
  • Experience working with multiple small and medium sized project-based teams, in an iterative and collaborative manner
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) in a Computer, Math, Physics or Engineering related field
  • Additional education and training through an advanced technical degree or continuous learning is highly desired

  • Experience with ground segment Integration and Validation
  • Experience with orbit analysis tools, e.g., GMAT, OREKIT, STK
  • Master of Science (MSc) in relevant field.
