What You'll Do:
The Senior Software Engineer reports to the Mission Analysis and Flight Dynamics Engineering Manager and works with the Flight Dynamics team to develop and maintain the Flight Dynamics software at the OneWeb Satellite Operations Center (SOC) to meet current and future operational needs. This role is integral to the development and improvement of all Flight Dynamics System (FDS) domains in the SOC. Responsibilities include supporting system architecture, software prototyping and development, integration and validation, as well as providing operational engineering support to in-orbit operations and mission analysis. Familiarity with cloud-based software architecture and automation orchestration is required. The candidate shall demonstrate the ability to work with minimal supervision in an agile-based team environment.
Responsibilities include:
- Drive the architecture, development and maintenance of a cloud-based Flight Dynamics System (FDS) in charge of complex functions of a LEO Constellation such as orbit determination and prediction, maneuver and attitude optimisation and planning, conjunction assessment, among others.
- Support planning, development and readiness of the FDS for all phases of spacecraft lifetime; to launch to mission to de-orbit.
- Proactively identify and lead the delivery of solutions to replace repetitive tasks with robust and event-driven automation and orchestration.
- Troubleshoot and resolve Fleet Management and FDS problems in a critical operational environment.
- Be an integral part of the business-wide software engineering centre of excellence and ensure best practices across the FDS technical stack.
- Mentor and guide a talented team of software engineers actively cultivating a culture of excellence in software engineering practices.
- Occasional on-call support rotation such that safe and efficient operations are ensured by the Flight Dynamics Operations Team on a 24/7 basis.
What it Takes:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience related to development of complex cloud-based systems (AWS preferred).
- A minimum of 5 years of experience and proficiency in Python and/or Java.
- Advanced working level knowledge and experience in building and configuring highly automated cloud-based systems in a microservices-based architecture.
- Experience with FastAPI, Litestar, Django or other web frameworks.
- Advanced working level knowledge and experience in relational and non-relational databases.
- Experience working with multiple small and medium sized project-based teams, in an iterative, collaborative and agile manner.
- Some mentoring experience or experience leading a small team.
- Bachelor of Science (BSc) in a Computer, Math, Physics or Engineering related field.
