Summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Finance Manager to join our Retail Finance Team. You will play a pivotal role in both leading the retail transformation, as well as providing clarity and certainty of M&S' largest cost line, managing over £1bn costs. This role will be working cross functionally to unlock end-to-end cost saving opportunities. You will work closely with the Retail Operations team, providing guidance, support and challenge to ensure delivery of the retail plan and annual targets.

This role would suit someone who is commercially & curiously minded. Someone with strong communication skills who can provide decision support and work cross functionally, as well being a self-starter.

To stay close to customers, our support teams are in the office three days a week as we believe that skills are developed through collaboration, and that spending time together makes us more creative and connected.

What you'll do
Your key accountabilities will include

• Be a proactive business partner to support, challenge and develop transformation initiatives that address end-to-end cost out opportunities whilst supporting and shaping the retail strategy, ensuring the financial long-term plan aligns with the ambition.
• Lead the reporting and analysis of our resource & operational spend to improve commercial decision making for the Retail Leadership Team (RLT). Understand key trends and pro-actively undertake analysis to unlock bandwidth opportunities
• Lead the core planning processes for Store Resourcing and Operating costs, working collaboratively with the Commercial Operations teams and BU finance teams to ensure alignment between labour allocation and sales expectations
• Optimise capital investment across retail (property & tech) to support both our cost out programme and existing estate maintenance
• Lead and develop a high performing team of 3 direct reports: 2x Senior Finance Analysts and a Finance Manager

Who you are
Your skills and experience will include

• A qualified accountant, with post-qualified experience
• Previous experience in Retail or industry is a strong preference
• Strong analytical capabilities, comfortable working with and accurately manipulating data to provide accurate and insightful analysis
• A strong commercial awareness with an understanding of industry trends, competitors and customers
• Team management experience is required
