About the Role

Base Location: Glasgow Perth, Aberdeen or Inverness.

Salary: £55,200 - £83,000 + performance related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

SSEN Transmission is at the heart of the just transition to net zero in the UK. In the coming years, our network will be pivotal in connecting and transporting the power needed to decarbonise the UK's electricity network and in doing so power the UK's net-zero and energy security ambitions. Our business is rapidly growing, to deliver the largest investment package that Scotland's electricity system has ever seen, with a projected investment programme of over £20bn in the next 10 years. This role will support the delivery of this ambitious investment programme.

This role requires you to support the Transmission Capital Investment programme, working closely with both project teams and the wider Transmission Investment team. You'll focus on supporting large infrastructure projects at various stages of maturity within the Transmission business. As a trusted partner to Project Teams and Support Functions, you will need to exercise strong financial control and demonstrate commercial risk awareness to support decision-making, ensure compliance with financial policies, and take a proactive approach to improving business processes during a time of significant growth in the Transmission business. A solid understanding of our regulatory obligations under the RIIO price controls is essential for success in this role.

You'll be expected to work independently, tackle complex issues, solve problems, and communicate your insights clearly to guide decisions and strategy. This is a varied and challenging role where you will:

  • Act as a trusted finance partner to Project Teams and support functions, delivering the ambitious investment programme. Provide robust challenge, support business objectives, and ensure project teams receive the necessary financial guidance.
  • Deliver insight on the risks and opportunities in large capital projects while ensuring compliance with our obligations and corporate governance.
  • Have a key focus on identification of and supporting the Transmission business on managing and mitigating commercial risk.
  • Lead on the design and practical implementation of regulatory mechanisms, and lead on robust governance and insights on performance under the financial regulatory funding mechanisms.
  • Have accountability for robust financial control for the Capital Project portfolio.

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  • Extensive experience working in a finance role within capital project investments, including monthly reporting, annual budgeting, and long-term forecasting of capital projects.
  • An awareness of commercial risks impacting large capital projects, and be able to support and provide insights to influence decision making and governance.
  • A proactive and inquisitive approach with a strong drive for change, able to build relationships and integrate into a variety of teams, driving robust financial and commercial control.
  • Confident and articulate with the willingness to challenge and support colleagues and the business in a constructive and supportive manner.
  • Ability to work to tight timescales, under pressure and deliver to a high standard.
