Senior Finance Manager

Our Finance Teams: Our Finance team has a large part to play in the success of our business. We are based across a few locations, but operate as one team, and work together to create a positive, productive and highly efficient finance department within News UK.

Role Objectives

  • Understand and ensure accuracy of weekly and month end reporting across:
    • Subscription and circulation revenue
    • Marketing costs and brand extensions
    • Editorial costs
  • Review and manage risk on the balance sheet reconciliations for all relevant accounts
  • Be an active and integral participant in an company-wide revenue projects
  • Ad-hoc queries and support to the team in London as required
  • Regular communication with the relevant Finance Directors and Heads of Finance
  • Regular communication with Subscriptions Technology team to ensure understanding of subscriptions model and technology platforms
  • Managing continuous improvement across the team
  • Developing team (2 direct and 2 indirect reports) and providing support where necessary

Key Skills

We're looking for someone qualified with comprehensive post qualified and management experience. We want someone who really wants to make a difference. Some of the skills you will need include:

  • Total ownership of your role, including not just the work but also team development and stakeholder relationships
  • Identifying and managing risks across all areas to deep dive and problem solve as required, raising any issues on a timely basis
  • Deep dive into key areas of responsibility in order to understand key drivers including working with the technology and subscriptions teams
  • Proactively identifying opportunities for improvement, simplification and efficiencies
  • Enthusiasm and curiosity to ask questions and improve processes
  • Motivating, driving and developing your team to achieve their best
  • Communicating relevant information effectively across a wide range of stakeholders including Heads of Finance, Finance Directors and non-finance personnel.
  • Effectively prioritising and identifying key focus areas
  • Proactively identifying risks and opportunities and flagging these as soon as possible to the relevant stakeholders
  • Support and challenge the team to ensure reporting output is accurate and they understand key risks associated with their areas of responsibility
  • Develop team so that they each own and become experts in their areas of responsibility
  • Have a strong technical accounting background in order to manage the revenue recognition process effectively
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are prepared and key areas of risk are being identified and actively followed up
