Job Description

M&S is currently embarking on an exciting period of strategic transformation. We are focusing on key initiatives such as driving efficiencies in our retail operating model, modernising our end-to-end supply chain, growing M&S Online and developing our store estate.

You'll be joining our Retail Financial Team, where you will play a pivotal role in supporting the business to understand our trading results and implement actions to drive profitable growth. You will be working closely with our Retail Operations teams, alongside Finance Business Partners, providing both guidance and challenge as appropriate.

This role would suit someone who is commercially minded, who is motivated by spotting trends and constructing analysis to interpret data and translating it into tangible discussions and actions.
Key accountabilities:

• Accountable for delivering bi-annual budgets for UK Retail sales in an efficient and insightful manner
• Drive the sales & contribution performance of stores through investigative trend analysis. Work closely with the Heads of Division and Heads of Trading to build and track practical results from the analysis produced
• Own the quarterly process and analysis of modelling store impairment reviews both from a commercial and statutory perspective, linking in with Audit team
• Work closely with Food, Clothing & Home and .com Finance to ensure joined up approach across Finance
• Develop and support direct report to meet agreed performance objectives and ways of working; identify and progress areas for personal development aligned to the Business Values
• Produce accurate reporting and insightful analysis into all aspects of UK Retail sales and margin, including identification of trends and assessment of trials and initiatives
• Continue to drive for automated solutions in reporting and planning to help find efficiencies, accuracy & insight
• Responsible for delivering longer term three year plan for retail incorporating changes in store estate strategy

Key Skills:

• A qualified accountant, with post-qualified experience
• Previous experience in Retail or industry would be helpful for this role
• Strong communication skills with the ability to articulate your message clearly and effectively to a wide range of business partner
• Strong analytical capabilities, comfortable working with and accurately manipulating data to provide accurate and insightful analysis
• A strong commercial awareness with an understanding of industry trends, competitors and customers would be desirable for this role
• A continuous improvement mind set, with the ability to maintain and further enhance controls and process
• Forward thinking with the ability to understand future requirements and how they can inform current plans
• A great teammate but also happy to work independently on own initiative
