Job Description

The role of Senior Financial Analyst - Global Service supports the provision of financial insight to the Finance Director, Global Service and VP, Service.

The individual will be expected to make a full contribution to the provision of timely, accurate, complete and consistent metrics and ensure the appropriate existence and functioning of finance related operating procedures, in respect of the division's service delivery, service supply chain and other associated activities.

The role will involve regular communication of management information (including financial performance and other KPI's both historical and forecast) to the Finance and service functions in addition to supporting the Finance Director in providing strategic input, identifying business risks and proposing mitigating actions.

Duties:

Financial Planning:

  • Work with the FD, Global Service to manage the Global Service financial planning process for all annual and strategic financial plans (including working capital and cost saving targets). Ensuring required functions are provided with quality navigation, forecasting and business planning tools and procedures that focus on decision making to maximise profit and cash. Including the communication and presentation of financial plans to Smiths Detection management and stakeholders.
  • Actively engaging in the completeness, consistency and timely reporting of the monthly finance related service metrics such as margin, warranty, absorption and labour utilisation, etc.
  • Support the validation of large capital investment requests, benefit assumptions and post completion reviews.
  • Lead in analysing product warranty cost consumption and validating the accuracy of provisions.
  • Monitoring business case delivery on Service delivery improvement programmes.
  • Conduct regular and broad ranging analytical reviews to provide comfort on the completeness, timeliness and accuracy of Service transactions reflected in SAP.
  • Owning the consolidation and divisional reporting of the monthly metrics together with ensuring that the appropriate framework is adhered to. Individual will also lead in the preparation of the finance section of the monthly service SLT pack.
  • Develop a deep understanding of and maintaining an appropriate reporting tool to represent the various elements causing under/over absorption, material spend, freight and other spend analysis across service.
  • Drive a culture of standardisation and consistency within the function to develop and implement global processes for the service function.
  • Lead on service finance SAP initiatives to enhance the level of consistency and automation of service / Finance processes.
  • Support the FD Global Service with FY25/FY26 Smiths Group Acceleration Global service initiatives and lead on projects within the initiatives.

Cost Control:

  • Develop and employ analytical review techniques to support constructive challenges to the operational cost centre owners to ensure the cost base is understood and controlled.
  • Be a key finance lead in the management and accounting of the Global service Inventory including supporting the Service Supply chain teams with management of the service network.
  • Control, analyses, discipline of using ERP, 'buy-at-risk', 'last time buy' decisions and overall inventory reduction planning. Continuing improvements in inventory transparency and decision making.
  • Ensure SAP compliance is maintained and processes adhered to for example in the areas of inventory control including cycling counting across the service network

Impact and Scope:

  • Individual is a key part of the Global Service Finance team and is key in supporting the Finance Director in executing the long-term Global Service strategy.
  • Individual will lead on initiatives linked to the Detection y-tree and as such, drive initiatives and decisions that would influence the organisation.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ideally, hold a recognized accounting qualification -fully qualified or part qualified and working towards full qualification.
  • Educated to a degree level.
  • Experience working with SAP (ECC) is a significant advantage.
  • Experience of service management tools is advantageous but not needed
  • A conscientious approach to reporting and thirst for analysis and problem solving.
  • Comfortable working with different cultures.
  • Strong Excel skills.
  • Experience of dealing with large, multinational organisations. Experience at a regional/divisional/global role is an advantage.
  • Individual must be comfortable working at varying levels of detail and switching between the tactical/operational/strategic approaches.

Planning and Decision Making:

  • Individual will be responsible for driving their own objectives and approaches to assignments.
  • Individual will be responsible for the development and implementation of Global processes/policies
