We are looking for an experienced and motivated Export Control Specialist to join our growing quality assurance department. The successful candidate will provide support to the Senior Director of QA, to ensure export compliance to global trade regulations and carry out routine risk review of export of Oxford Nanopore products through multiple channels. Please note this role would be hybrid working with us in Oxford (1-2 days per week ideally, but this can be discussed further).

The Details...

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare and submit export licence and export advice applications.
  • Check input and output data for export licence and advice applications and interact with internal and external stake holders for any issues.
  • Routine monitoring of trade regulations in UK, US, EU, Singapore, and Australia and advise teams on impact and identify actions to lower the impact on the business.
  • Monitoring and review results from denied party screening software and advise teams on sanctions and embargoes.
  • Manage a training program for internal and external stakeholders to trade regulations and export control processes.
  • Manage and monitor purchase of control products.
  • Proactive support to teams with any issues impacting sale and export of products.
  • Monitoring new product design and advise on trade regulations requirements.
  • Routine Inspection of export documentation and records to export control regulation.
  • Manage sales, shipping, storage, and record management for control products.
  • Input and maintain accurate records for all export control activities.
  • Communicate with regulatory bodies and external counsel to help remove barriers to sales.
  • Auditing of internal processes, CRM, and ERP system to export control processes and Oxford Nanopore export control policy.
  • Routine risk review from changes to the trade regulations.
  • Draft and gain approval for updates to the export control procedures and policy.
  • Carry out rating review of products against international regulations.
  • Support hosting export control audits.
  • Support creation of requirements document for increasing export control automation.
  • Ability to read and understand regulations.
  • Prepare export control metrics.
  • Actively promote continuous improvement of processes for compliance to export control legislation.
  • Any other duties as specified by the manager from time to time depending on changing business needs.

What We're Looking For...

  • A BSc or equivalent experience.
  • Trained in export control licensing and export control lists.
  • Formal training in internal auditing and reporting in export control or quality activities.
  • Several years experience in an organisation involved in the sale of controlled goods and sale into embargoed countries.
  • Managing the purchase and sale of control component, chemicals, software, and technology.
  • Internal auditing/export control auditing.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry.
  • Ability to communicate complicated subjects and legal jargon in a simple and succinct manner.
  • A strong attention to detail.
  • Proactive, with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work to tight time scales and to adjust priorities, as well as being methodical & organised.
  • Suitable DiT recognised export control training would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of US re-export restrictions and US trade regulations would be desirable.
  • Knowledge of software export restrictions would be desirable.
