The opportunity

EY's Economic Advisory team of over 40 economists, accountants, policy & regulatory practitioners is now looking to expand significantly on its existing economics practice to capture exciting opportunities, particularly within our target sectors of energy and resources, telecommunications, media and technology, health and transport sectors and economic policy. As a result, we are looking for experienced professionals with experience to grow the business across our target sectors.
EY's Economic Advisory team combines deep sector knowledge with strong technical skills in economics and data analysis to advise a broad range of private and public sector clients on their most complex problems, from high profile transactions to net zero strategies.

Your key responsibilities

  • Manage projects from start to finish to meet client needs within budgets;
  • Sound judgement to know when to escalate issues to senior team members;
  • Capable of managing junior team members to deliver high quality work;
  • Provide or contribute to economic analysis as part of client engagements;
  • Prepare and present clear reports to support these analyses and solutions;
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of Excel and other suitable solution platforms;
  • Manage own time to budgets and communicate progress against plan to senior managers;
  • Apply or refer to a basic range of EY services and products in meeting clients' needs;
  • Proactively manages own career path and development.

  • Have an ability to solve complex problems in a logical and structured manner;
  • Take a logical and rational approach to complex problem solving;
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills, being able to explain complex technical issues to non-technical staff and clients;
  • Have a strong ability to build rapport and relationships with clients and EY teams;
  • Deal confidently with stakeholders and client staff and build credibility for the firm;
  • Are organised and able to prioritise competing demands, responding quickly to client requests, with excellent judgement in understanding when to refer an issue to more senior staff where appropriate;
  • Have experience and interest in managing and developing others;
  • Have demonstrable track record in managing projects to successful outcomes;
  • Have sound judgement on issues to escalate to senior team members;
  • Recognise opportunities to contribute to client issues when they arise and assists in providing solutions;
  • Actively promotes the sharing of knowledge;
  • Contribute pro-actively to building team spirit and works effectively across teams;
  • Deliver to demanding deadlines maintaining a high quality of output.

To qualify for the role you must have

Suitable candidates should have 5-8 years of relevant experience in most of the following:

  • A solid understanding of the principles of economics, regulatory economics, regulatory finance/accounting and/or econometrics;
  • Experience of applying economic theory to the development and evaluation of public and regulatory policy, particularly in our target sectors;
  • Specific experience designing, influencing or optimising economic regulation (price controls) or market arrangements;
  • Experience of competition or regulatory economics, strategy, business planning, costing and pricing;
  • Experience of economic impact assessments or business cases;
  • Strong academic and professional background in Economics, Business or Industrial Economics or Econometrics.

What we look for

Suitable applicants will be highly numerate and analytical with a relevant undergraduate and/or post-graduate degree, such as Economics, Finance, Engineering and Mathematics with relevant experience in the private, regulatory or the public policy sector.
