About the role
Our team Connect Plus Services is responsible for operating and maintaining the M25 network, including all adjoining trunk and slip roads on behalf of Connect Plus and National Highways.
Join our team Commercial Team as a Senior Estimator working within our Change Team
What you'll be doing
As a Senior Estimator, you will have the following accountabilities:
• Undertake estimates in accordance with the companies' policies and procedures.
• Review technical reports, drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment
• Translate measurement from drawings & specifications and prepare Bills of Quantities & Schedules of Rates.
• Oversee and/or interrogate design options and 'value' solutions, and if appropriate,
identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles.
• Mentor and support more junior members of the team.
• Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities including supporting developing the risk evaluation from a pricing/budgetary point of view.
• Liaise with members of the Change team, wider Connect Plus Services team, other BB
business units & supply chain, to develop and understand methodologies and principles proposed.
• Maintain and update library of rates on CANDY estimating software.
Who we're looking for
• Infrastructure Main Contractor background ideally within the Highways term-maintenance market.
• Previous experience in Estimating of Heavy Civil Engineering Projects Commercial or
operational background considered.
• Chartered by relevant industry recognised chartership e.g., ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB Etc
(desirable).
• Proficient in the use of excel (Microsoft Office programmes i.e. Word, Outlook) and similar software.
• Experienced estimating background using Candy Estimating Software (desirable).
• A valid CSCS card.
• Working knowledge of best practice solutions and optimisation of innovative ideas and an understanding of the principles of Lean Construction and cost planning within a long-term highway's maintenance setting is desirable.
• An understanding of BIM and how to read and assemble BIM models and produce
appropriate reports from them is desirable.
• Good working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods is required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to
form effective relationships with partners both internal & external.
