We have a new opportunity for a Senior Estimator to support our Landscaping team at Ground Control. The overall objective of this role is to win new work in line with business requirements and provide accurate prime costs for the works and providing accurate information at settlement meetings. This is an exciting and dynamic role that is crucial to the success of the division.

You will be driven to succeed and draw on your experience to provide estimates which consider a wide range of technical and practical impacts on the anticipated margins. You will support your colleagues in the wider business with pricing queries and attend site as required.

Key responsibilities are as follows;

• Be conversant with the main forms of contract used in our industry
• Have a clear understanding of drawings, specifications and all supporting information to accurately prepare estimates in accordance with requests for tender
• Primary contact with suppliers, sub-contractors, estimators, designers, engineers and architects to obtain the necessary information to prepare a comprehensive and accurate bid response.
• Review designs for alternative materials and prepare estimates in accordance with the guidelines provided by the contractor.
• Ability to calculate and compile take off data for use in bid proposal estimates on time
• Demonstrate flexibility to perform and complete duties wherever volume deems it necessary and with strong attention to detail.
• Confidentiality of Company, customer, supplier and employee information is maintained.
• Strong analytical and observation skills, which demonstrate the ability to set a course or direction.
• Proficient with computer software programs including On-Screen Take-off, pricing software Word, Excel, Outlook
• Pricing from first principles
• Pricing Soft and Hard works including groundworks
• Undertake site visits

Any skills in the following would also be a real advantage;

• Bid writing support (working with our bid writing team)
• Pricing works for direct clients and understanding CDM requirements

On winning tenders you will be responsible for preparing a detailed tender handover summary document identifying key elements of the tender including, but not limited to, tender philosophy, strategy, financial and resourcing analysis, risks and opportunities, critical and long lead in times for materials and sub-contractor procurement.

In addition, you will provide support and develop other members of the estimating team ensuring that they are effectively performing their key accountabilities for the company on each project.

The person....

There is real flexibility on the location of this role as you can work remotely for most of your time. We have our head office in Billericay, Essex, a satellite office in the West Midlands and also an office in London but you can be predominantly working from home with some site-based visits when required.

We`d love to hear from existing experienced Estimators within the Landscape Construction industry. Experience within groundworks estimating or within the drainage industry especially experience across SUDs.

You`ll have a solid commercial background in bid and tender management across hard and soft landscaping as well as;

• Excellent analytical, writing and presentation skills with the ability to shape written solutions independently
• Strong commercial skills, with a good working understanding of frameworks /contract and risk management.
• Demonstrable experience of understanding and developing service solutions in an efficient manner.
• A track record of success in winning and retaining service industry based accounts
• Strong stakeholder management skills
• A hands on approach to your work
