Job overview

We are looking for a highly experienced and self-motivated Senior Estates Project Manager with extensive construction work experience within the NHS and or Healthcare sector (or similar) in the built environment to be part of our Estates Capital Projects team. As a Senior Estate Project Manager, you will be site based full time and report to the Head of Estates Capital Projects and have a strong track record with the delivery of construction projects, be a highly motivated, experienced team player with excellent financial and communication skills. You will be required to work on Capital & Estates Backlog projects on all the Trust sites, with project values from £5k-£10M upwards. You will be working alongside Trust stakeholders to develop schemes, with responsibilities for procurement, control of design teams and be accountable for financial performance, programme and quality delivery and supporting on business case development. You will have a Master's degree or equivalent in a Construction related field and evidence of CPD.

The Team are responsible for the delivery of the physical environment aspect of the Trust's capital programme whilst achieving the objectives and visions of the organisation. The main challenge for the post holder will be to implement projects whilst minimising the operational impact on the Trust teamed with developing systems/processes to ensure best practice is adopted for all tasks undertaken.

Main duties of the job

To support the Trust's Head of Estates Capital Projects in managing the Capital Estates Programme.

Professionally accountable for estates project construction and implementation of delegated schemes within the Trust's Investment Programme to improve the environment for patients and staff.

(1) To work as a specialist professional as part of the Estates Department.

(2) To provide expert specialist and professional construction and estates projects advice to other Estates staff, Directors, Senior Management, Trust Boards and external agencies.

(3) To independently manage a portfolio of complicated delegated projects from £5K to £10M upwards from inception to completion, including full project management, design, costs, contract administration, site supervision and commissioning under the Trust Capital Programme.

(4) To appoint and manage external professional consultants within an authorised budget as a Budget Holder.

(5) To manage Estates Capital Budgets, professional services, contractor works and physical assets as part of the Trust Capital Programme.

(6) To be responsible for producing and implementing a number of department processes and procedures.

(7) To support and deputise for Senior Managers within the Estates Department as and when required.

(8) Responsible for the operational commissioning of health buildings

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • A BSc, BA MA Degree in Engineering or a Construction discipline
  • Or A BSc or BA (as above) with demonstrable extensive Senior Management Experience in a similar organisation.
  • Or a BSc or BA (as above) with Membership of a professional institution such as RICS, RIBA, CIBSE, CIOB.

Desirable criteria

  • Management qualification.
  • Membership of a professional institution such as RICS, RIBA, CIBSE, CIOB.
  • PRINCE 2.
  • Record of Continued Professional Development

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Extensive Demonstrable pre qualification practical experience in project management in a relevant and appropriate Health Service environment.
  • Extensive Demonstrable pre qualification experience in the Commissioning of new Health Service facilities in an NHS environment including design, specification, Project Management and Contract Administration.
  • Knowledge and experience of relevant Health and Safety legislation
  • Successful leadership, in large health organisation
  • Procurement management, including goods and supplies, service contracts etc.
  • Multi-stakeholder contract negotiation, procurement and management.
  • Managing multi-disciplinary relationships in a relevant organisational setting

Skills/Knowledge/ Abilities

Essential criteria

  • Asbestos awareness
  • High order leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • High level literacy with the ability to interpret and compile formal reports
  • Excellent negotiating skills
