Location: London or Birmingham

Base salary: £40,750pa to c.£54,650pa depending on skills and experience. In addition, we offer flexible benefits fund of 20% which is paid on top of base salary and is fully pensionable, as well as a range of competitive benefits - check them out in the Benefits section on our website.

As Senior Ergonomist you'll works closely with the Ergonomics & Human Factors (E&HF) Leads, to manage the delivery and assurance of Ergonomics and Human Factors across multiple rail systems, operational business systems and alignment with future operations.

About the role:

  • Support the E&HF Leads in the assurance of the design, construction and operations / maintenance of the HS2 railway
  • Manage contractors and their deliverables, supporting E&HF Leads, to make sure they are delivering to the HS2 specification and requirements
  • Work with HS2 disciplines (e.g. Project Management, Engineering, Systems Integration, Infrastructure Management etc.) to ensure that E&HF is an integral part of the design process
  • Provide specialist E&HF input into the development of HS2 ways of working, processes, practises and rules (i.e. how operations and maintenance of HS2 will run when operational)
  • Provide E&HF input into safety assessments, HAZIDs, Human Reliability Assessments, as required
  • Work with E&HF team members and other senior leaders with regards to E&HF strategy and implementation
  • Work with E&HF team members to promote the work that the team does, internally and in the wider E&HF community (e.g. conference presentations)
  • Actively promote and embed Equality Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in all your work. Support and comply with all organisational initiatives, policies and procedures on EDI.

About You:

Skills:

  • Demonstrable interpersonal and influencing skills at all levels and across different stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Ability to use technical E&HF knowledge and experience to influence outcomes
  • Work on multiple projects / work areas, and to develop knowledge of new areas of E&HF (and HS2 / rail)
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical ideas and technical recommendations to peers and to other stakeholders.
  • Ability to provide Ergonomics and Human Factors input on systems and operations to project engineering and delivery teams.

Knowledge:

  • Chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (CIEHF), or demonstrable knowledge and experience as would be required by the CIEHF for Chartered status
  • Degree in Ergonomics or Human Factors (or equivalent area e.g. Psychology)
  • Broad range of knowledge in applied E&HF

Type of Experience:

  • Experience of applying Human Factors principles and methods within a complex, safety critical engineering environment
  • Experienced in working in multi-disciplinary teams
