About the role

Balfour Beatty is looking for a Senior Environmental Sustainability Advisor to join our team supporting the Bramford to Twinstead Network Optimisation Project. This is an exciting opportunity to provide expert environmental guidance, promote sustainability, and influence positive change across multiple projects. You'll play a key role in supporting operational teams, liaising with clients and regulators, and ensuring compliance with environmental standards, all while driving a culture of continuous improvement.

What you'll be doing

  • Deliver and support environmental and ecological initiatives, including net gain projects.
  • Provide expert advice to operational and design teams on environmental management, mitigation, and compliance.
  • Produce, review, and maintain environmental management plans, risk assessments, and sustainability plans.
  • Report on environmental and sustainability performance to clients and leadership teams.
  • Engage with clients, regulators, subcontractors, and local stakeholders to ensure environmental requirements are met.
  • Oversee and support a team of Environmental and Sustainability Advisors/Coordinators across multiple projects.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and recommend preventive measures.
  • Lead internal training, toolbox talks, and coaching to promote development and awareness.
  • Support bid teams by reviewing client tender documents and providing detailed responses on environmental management.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement through sharing lessons learned and supporting audit and assurance activities.

Who we're looking for

  • Experienced in environmental management and sustainability within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental legislation, standards, and best practices.
  • Excellent communicator with the ability to liaise confidently with clients, regulators, and teams.
  • Experienced in supervising teams and prioritising tasks effectively.
  • Committed to driving sustainability initiatives and embedding environmental awareness across projects.
