The Southwest hub is looking for two Senior Environmental Project Managers (SEPM), one permanent and one fixed term contract of 24 months, to join our National Environmental Assessment and Sustainability team (NEAS).

This advert is for the Southwest of England. However, applicants successful at interview from any geographical location will be held on our reserve list for the next 6 months and may be offered roles in other teams nationally if vacancies arise.
You will provide technical environmental advice relating to design, environmental risk and programme management, acting as an 'intelligent client' on behalf of Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM).
Duties include:
• Advising on the requirement for statutory Environmental Impact Assessment under the appropriate regime.
• Liaising with technical suppliers to agree scope and quality standards.
• Monitor and assesses performance of environmental consultants and provides feedback.
• Support engagement with Statutory Environmental Bodies and other environmental stakeholders.

NEAS manage the Environmental Assessment of the Environment Agency's capital projects and Environmental Assessments of relevant strategies and plans to ensure projects comply with environmental legislation and policy. Ensuring opportunities to improve the environment for people and wildlife are identified and taken forward.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will also be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.

The team

The Southwest NEAS team is part of a national team, which is divided into 6 operational Hubs, each led by an Operational Unit Manager overseeing 10-16 staff, supported by Principal Environmental Specialists and Team Leaders. Each operational hub has a Team Leader who manages Landscape Architect, Heritage specialist and Senior/Environmental Project Managers who work collaboratively with our environmental delivery partners to provide technical expertise, supporting the delivery of projects within FCERM and other programmes.

Experience/skills required

Essential:
Educated in environmental science or a related subject at degree level
Experience in managing the environmental risk in projects
Experience as an environmental adviser within multi-disciplinary project teams
Strong communication and influencing skills
Experience in mentoring and supporting colleagues
Experience of working collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams

Desirable:
Membership of a professional environmental institute
Knowledge of flood and coastal risk management
Considerable involvement in infrastructure projects
