As a Senior Environment Officer (SEO) you will lead and deliver our technical work in the Essex Land and Water team. You will work closely with the Team Leader and other SEOs and support and mentor less experienced officers. You'll have a good understanding of incident management and be confident in dealing with a wide range of customers and stakeholders.
Using your leadership skills and technical expertise, you will influence and persuade people and businesses to take actions to improve and protect the environment.
You will prioritise and deliver our regulatory compliance and enforcement work, conducting routine site inspections and audits, and leading pollution incident investigations.
Additionally, you will:
• Provide direction and drive on complex, high-profile issues.
• Be responsible for planning and ensuring tracked delivery of priority work streams.
• Represent the Environment Agency at meetings with partner organisations and stakeholders

The team
The Essex Land and Water team sits under Local Operations and within Area Environment Management.
You will be part of a busy team who perform regulatory and enforcement roles covering agriculture, incident management, water quality and water resources. The team is passionate about the environment, undertaking work that is interesting and varied with no two days the same.
Experience/skills required
The successful candidate will have -
• Relevant operational and technical experience to support and lead team members
• Ability to motivate and inspire the team to meet challenges and deliver prioritised work
• Confidence in your own knowledge and skills, with proven ability coach and mentor others
• Strong influencing skills and problem-solving capabilities
• Relevant experience in environmental compliance, regulation and enforcement
A full UK Driving Licence is essential

The role will be based at our Kelvedon (Colchester, CO5 9SE) office; however, we are adopting new ways of working which allows some flexibility to work from home. It is expected the post holder will undertake site visits primarily in Essex.
The post is full-time although requests for other work patterns will be considered.

Role specific license requirements
