If so, we are recruiting for high-calibre experienced waste sector engineering consultants, and ideally work winners, to join our business at WSP.

We are interested in the right people and are interested in applicants with a range of experience. Therefore, depending on where you are in your journey, we are open to candidates from Senior Project Engineer to Technical Director level. A combination of consulting and development or operational experience is an advantage.

Responsibilities

A typical working week for this role will consist of delivering solutions for our clients, whilst furthering your knowledge and professional development. You will be involved in leading and providing support to clients across a wide range of waste and resource recovery technologies (e.g., mechanical recycling, anaerobic digestion, composting, energy from waste combustion, and other advanced thermal treatment and conversion technologies). You might have experience in all these technologies, or in one or more specific technologies. You will be involved in a range of projects that could include:

  • Providing technical guidance concerning the application and performance of waste treatment processes and technologies.
  • Assessing the ability of processes to deliver required performance and undertaking technical due diligence for potential transactions (buy and sell side).
  • Preparing and/or reviewing design deliverables including specifications, calculations, reports, datasheets, drawings, and schedules.
  • Undertaking technical appraisal of tenders and contracts.
  • Developing feasibility and scoping studies.
  • Undertaking asset condition surveys, and assessing the compliance of facilities and technologies with health and safety regulations, legislative requirements, established industry best practices, best available technology, user needs, budgetary constraints, and project timelines.
  • Advising or assessing testing and commissioning of equipment and installations.
  • Providing expert opinion on the planned and actual performance of assets, processes, and equipment items.
  • Maintaining projects and maintaining communication with clients.
  • Participate in proposals, scoping work packages and resourcing/time estimates.
  • Coach and mentor discipline staff and actively contribute to the technical development of skills throughout the wider team.

Qualifications

  • Relevant engineering experience relating to the waste sector, ideally with experience in multiple technology and site types.
  • Willingness to travel to support project delivery.
  • Exceptional time management skills, including the ability to manage/deliver several projects at once.
  • A methodical approach to problem solving and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional affiliation with or membership of appropriate body or chartership.
  • Your level of understanding and experience will be reflective of your grade.
  • Eligibility to drive in the UK.
