Hi ! We're Valla, and we're looking for a Senior Engineer to join our kind, smart team. Our mission is to help the millions of people in the UK that can't afford high legal fees to get access to justice.
About Valla
Valla was founded by two senior women from the tech industry who were tired of seeing people being treated unfairly by their employers and not being able to afford justice.
We are a startup founded in 2020. We're now growing monthly with 10,000 users signed up and loads of positive feedback from both our users and the legal industry. We have brilliant opportunities to grow and offer support to more people in more areas of consumer law and we're looking for a Senior Engineer to help.
Our product
Valla's platform is initially focused on UK employment tribunals. It enables people to understand and then manage their workplace issues from grievance to tribunal with cutting edge technology and affordable support from expert legal coaches.
The role
You'd be working directly with our CTO Jeff, our founder and CEO Danae, and our team of domain experts. Our core challenge is to leverage latest technologies, specifically including generative AI, to enable Valla to scale while protecting affordability of access to justice.
This is a hands-on full stack role. As a software engineer, you'll help create, evolve and support our legal platform, including research, design, code, test, release, monitor and support across our tech stack. You'll recognise the AI wave is changing software engineering and you'll help to identify and explore opportunities while exercising good judgment on keeping safe boundaries.
The stack
Our core stack is Python, Django, AWS (via CDK + SST IaC) and Supabase
Remote or office
We're predominantly a UK remote working team. However, we can provide an Edinburgh city centre coworking space. The choice is yours. We aim to get together 2-3 times per quarter in Scotland's central belt.
Who you are
You are a software developer with experience across our tech stack. You understand what's involved in creating NoOps (correction: minimum Ops) services. You enjoy learning and helping others learn. You have a voice and opinions while actively seeking other views, new ideas and information. You're aware there are always trade offs.
You are comfortable operating across the full stack and all stages: concept to live and support.
You are AI curious. You're open to and excited about the possibilities, whilst being able to exercise appropriate caution.
You can show us and talk about what you've previously done and explored, sharing your opinions and what you learned. You want to develop your skills in this area and find ways to use it for good.
Benefits and criteria
We support people returning from a career break so please do not hesitate to apply.
Unfortunately we are not able to sponsor candidates so you will need to already have the right to work in the UK.
The salary for this role is between £45,000 - £60,000 dependent on your experience.
Additional benefits include:
* Flexible working (see below)
* 33 days holiday
* 3% Company pension scheme
This is a full-time role and your hours can be flexible - just let us know when you apply what you're looking for. If you have any question about whether or not this role might work for you and your specific needs, please just drop us a line at [email protected] and we can talk it through.
We care a LOT about building a diverse team - we want the team building our product to be as diverse as the people it's built for. We know that Black Lives Matter, Trans rights are human rights, and that the patriarchy is toxic for everyone. See our company code of conduct to see how we work.
