The role

Gateley Smithers Purslow are looking to recruit a full time Senior Engineer to join our growing team in Reigate.

This is a busy and varied role providing support to the local and national Engineering teams on a wide range of
projects, including structural surveys and structural designs for residential, commercial and industrial properties
as well as providing advice to the insurance sector and assisting with our regional frameworks. The Senior Engineer is expected to support the Engineering Line Manager and is responsible for handling projects within own level of authority and providing training and guidance to supporting team members.This position provides a perfect opportunity for the successful candidate to show their ambition, drive and passion for customer service, as well as delivering our values, a professional manner and good interpersonal communication skills are essential.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • To use a range of software to develop detailed structural designs as well as hand calculations
  • Undertaking of technical and feasibility studies including organising site investigations
  • Liaise with clients and a variety of professionals including contractors and architects.
  • Preparation of reports, contract documents, management of tenders.
  • Provide technical advice to clients
  • Obtain planning and/or buildings regulation approval
  • Monitoring and inspecting work undertaken by contractors
  • Resolving design and development problems
  • Management of budget and project resources
  • Ensuring that all projects comply with legal requirements including CDM2015, Party wall, Listed
    buildings
  • Assessment of sustainability and environmental impact of projects
  • Undertake large value projects independently with sound knowledge on all aspects of professional
    consultancy services
  • To play an active part in promoting the company's services to secure projects and promote the Gateley Smithers
    Purslow brand.
  • Assisting director with training and development of the engineering team
  • To provide supervision and support to Graduates and Engineers to promote knowledge and
    understanding
  • Inspection / Supervision of construction work on site under contract, preparation of interim and final accounts, claim and practical completion.
  • At all times to comply with the requirements of the Company's administrative, personnel procedures and Health & Safety regulations

The company includes highly skilled professionals such as Chartered Building Surveyors, Chartered Structural Engineers, and Architects, who operate across the UK within the insurance market. The firm is committed to providing practical and workable solutions for building and infrastructure projects, serving a diverse range of clients in both the public and private sectors. The person

Candidates will be able to demonstrate the following attributes:

  • MEng (Hons) in Structural Engineering
  • Experience and extensive working knowledge of consulting engineering, surveying, architectural & planning practices and procedures supported by an awareness of the latest statutory requirements, technical publications and guidelines.
  • Experience in negotiation, supervisory and leadership roles
  • Experience in working to deadlines and within budgets on large scale projects
  • Sound mathematical, scientific and IT skills
  • The ability to thin methodically and to manage projects
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
