Senior Engineer - Bridges and Structures Asset Management

Location - Central Lancashire

Salary £38,223 - £43,421, Permanent, Full Time, 37 hours pw

The Highways Asset Management Service is responsible for ensuring that Lancashire County Council meets its statutory duty as a highway's authority through strategic management of over 7,500 kilometres of vehicular highway network, containing 152,000 streetlights,15,000 illuminated signs/bollards, over 2000 bridges and other structures, together with many other highway assets.

The bridges capital programme is in excess of £3.5m.

The Role & Responsibilities

We are seeking a dynamic and results-orientated Senior Bridges & Structures Engineer, to support our ambitious projects and contribute to our organisation's success. This is an exciting opportunity to join us in Lancashire, as we continue to develop and deliver our bridge asset management programme. The work contributes towards the wider Highway Asset Management service, through the development of an asset risk-based approach to Asset Management, including development of the Transport Asset Management Plan.

  • As a Senior Bridge Engineer, you will be an outstanding individual who will play a key role in ensuring that Lancashire County Council's bridges and retaining walls continue to meet requirements for service delivery.
  • As part of a professional team, you will work closely with various stakeholders, identifying, developing and delivering projects to meet the corporate responsibilities.
  • You will be highly experienced, with detailed working knowledge of highway structures such as bridges, retaining walls and rural footbridges.
  • You should be familiar with the relevant highway bridge design standards, guidance and practices, such as the Inspection Manual for Highway Structures, Well Managed Highway Infrastructure - A Code of Practice and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges.
  • You will have experience of prioritising and managing work across a varied portfolio.
  • Ability to organise, manage time and prioritise work effectively whilst delivering a number of objectives.
  • Excellent negotiation and influencing skills at an appropriate level in order to achieve required results.
  • Experience of managing, leading and motivating staff.
